“We will have our time, Kala, I know this. For it has been my greatest wish.”

My spoken wish was then granted by the gift of another, when she told me all I needed to hear…

“It is my wish too, Father.”

HOLY REQUESTS

After this Kala, looked behind her and when she focused on the open doorway that just appeared, I felt every muscle in my body tense knowing what it meant. It was one that was framed by an intricate arch of delicate golden roses. Of course, I knew what this symbolised also, as it was sign of Jesus’ joyous resurrection. It meant reverence and affection, but it was also a symbol of crossing over and entering your next journey in the Afterlife.

One I selfishly didn’t want her to take.

But one I knew she would take regardless, when she told me softly,

“It’s time.” I started to shake my head, admittedly telling her,

“I don't want you to go.” She granted me a small smile as I could see my words had meant a lot to her.

“I never knew it was possible to gain a lifetime in a day,” she told me, making my breath catch in my throat. Then she took my hand and lifted it to her lips, granting me a kiss on the back of my palm before holding it then cupped to her cheek.

“I am happy knowing that I am finally loved wherever I am meant to be, and that you too are loved where you were always destined to be. And until it is our time, we won't say goodbye, for this isn't the end…” She paused, now looking up at me with those big, beautiful hazel eyes, eyes now simmering with unshed tears, just like she did as a child. Then she finished her vow,

“… it is only the beginning.”

After this we both stood and she took my hand, and I forced myself to walk with her towards the doorway. But that was when it suddenly hit me, the realization nearly making me stagger in my step.

This exit wasn't for her.

It was for me.

It was her symbol reverence and affection for me. She had created it and I lowered my head as the weight of that knowledge nearly brought me to my knees. But I didn’t want to leave without granting her a gift of my own. So, I plucked one of the golden roses from the arch, holding it by the stem before her. Then with a thought I rolled my palm just above the perfect bloom and turned it to clear obsidian, making it now look like black glass.

“What does it mean?” she asked as she reached out and took it into her grasp, looking down at it in awe.

“It is my gift to you… it symbolizes power, strength, and most of all, my hope…it is a piece of me.”She looked so touched by this and whispered gently through fresh tears,

“Thank you, Father… I will treasure it always.” At this I ran the back of my finger down her cheek, smiling down at her.

“You are most welcome, my child,” I told her, knowing that I couldn’t prolong this any longer, but as I turned ready to leave she grabbed my arm. Then she utterly amazed me with what came next. For she cupped both her hands to her chest, my rose held firmly between them and closed her eyes. I didn’t have long to question why, as a blue light started to glow between her hands and I frowned in silent wonder at what she was about to gift me in return.

“For your sacrifice you were granted your wish to bring me here yourself. To speak with me one more time and give me the choice of where my soul remains. For the time being, I have chosen to remain here, but I was also granted a wish for my own sacrifice made. For wanting to protect a very different world than this, to protect it against the hatred that wanted to consume it. I give that wish to you now, for I know there is one other soul you would have wished to have saved.” At this she handed over the glowing blue light with one hand, keeping her rose firmly in the other. My eyes widened as realization hit me as to what this could mean.

Could it be truly possible?

“I… I don't know what to say,”I whispered in awe and dreamlike disbelief.

“Say not goodbye, but only farewell…for our time will come.”At this I looked away from the glow in her palm, and before taking it, I used my own hands to frame her face. Then I leaned down so as I could grant her a tender kiss on her forehead.

“Then farewell, my daughter…until our time.”I felt my tears drip down my face and soak into her skin, sealing this vow with the strength of my emotions. By the time I pulled away, I saw the same emotions glistening in her eyes before falling from the weight of them. Then I took the glow into my own hands, holding it to my chest as I stepped away. And with each step I took closer to the doorway at my back, I then watched as another appeared behind her, knowing that she was in God’s hands.

My once mentor.

My eternal friend.

The man I had always intended to follow into the Afterlife no matter what the outcome. I just didn't expect it to take me over two thousand years to get there. So, with little else to say, I parted with only this,

“Goodbye, my old friend.” And with that, Jesus Christ nodded behind me and for the first time, acknowledged me not as the man he used to know…
