“Yeah, yeah.” I waved off his lie. “Get to the point.”

“Based on what I’ve heard from some people, there has been a new player on the streets…though no one knows who it is.” His fingers twitched at his side, his foot tapping a random pattern against the damp ground. “But that’s not even the worst part. Not only are people losing customers, but those customers have also seemed to disappear from the area altogether.”

“What?” Nolan straightened, his hands balling into fists. “Have any of them shown up dead?”

“Not to my knowledge. First, they stop going to their normal dealer, but are obviously still strung. Then their presence lingers before they just vanish.” Mylo fidgeted a bit, my eyes narrowing at the show of unease.

“What else?”

He sighed. “A few of my people have disappeared. Three as of right now. I’m trying to keep a tighter surveillance, but there is only so much I can do.”

The timelines were lining up that Elliot was not only killing, but using wolfsbane distribution as a way to make some extra money—maybe even lure some of his victims. This helped; it meant we had another lead to pursue, another chance to find a weakness in Elliot’s perfect killing spree and exploit it.

“Thanks for the information,” I pushed off the wall, walking to the entryway of the alley. “Looking forward to arresting you one day soon.”

“Kasha,” Mylo called out, Nolan and I turning around to look back at him. “I need you to give a message to Eden.”

My eyes narrowed as I took a step toward him, his shoulders slumped. “This better be important. If not, I’ll be giving you a few choice words before refusing to pass it along.”

“Itisimportant.” Mylo let out a deep breath, rubbing his hand across his forehead, fingers pulling a few pieces of well-manicured hair from its styling cream. “Those people who have gone missing over the past few weeks? One of them is Lila.”

My heart bottomed out, my throat closing in on itself. I rushed forward, slamming Mylo into the wall, his head hitting it with a loud thump. He didn’t fight me, his body just sagging in my hold as if he was resigned to whatever attack I wanted to inflict.

“Didn’t think to lead with that little fact?” I yelled. “Goddess, Mylo, how long has it been?”

He hesitated for a moment. “Three weeks.”

“What?” I screeched.

Nolan took a step forward. “Who’s Lila?”

“A long story.” I looked over at him, his face pinched in confusion. I was sure this whole situation was utterly impossible to follow along, but it wasn’t my place to tell him the whole story without Eden here. He would find out soon—just with his Gamma present as well. “But what matters is she’s important to Eden. You should have reported her missing the moment you realized it.”

“You know I couldn’t do that,” Mylo whispered. I could see the guilt and worry swirling in his eyes, his face paling. “I’ve had my people searching for weeks, but nothing has come up. I’m worried. She’s disappeared at times on a bender, but she’s never been gone for this long.”

“You are damned lucky she’s important to one of my best friends,” I said through clenched teeth. “I’ll make some calls, see if anyone has a report of her being checked into a detox center. But you and I both know that’s a long shot.”

“I know.” Mylo’s head hung low.

“And I’ll tell Eden.” I got closer to him, our noses grazing. “But this news shouldn’t be coming from me.”

“And you know she won’t see me even if I say it’s an emergency.” Regret filled his eyes. “Just, please, tell her.”

“Fine, but I’m not doing this for you.” I gave him one last shove into the wall before walking down the alley, Nolan close behind as we disappeared into the streets.

Chapter Thirty-One

“We should go back to the Compound so I can talk to Eden.” I didn’t know how I was going to explain everything to her.

I’d assumed Nolan would learn that Eden has some connection to Mylo—which was why I’d let her know before I left—but I wasn’t expecting the admissions he gave. I didn’t know how she would react, and the unknown made my heart beat a little too fast.

“She’s not there,” Nolan said, already straddling his cycle. “The Rystin Faction agreed to start looking for potential files for us if we agreed to go and pick them up. Eden and Greyson left soon after we did. They won’t be back until morning.”

I huffed, throwing my head back. “Wonderful.”

“Look,” he leaned forward, his arms braced on the handlebars of his cycle, “I don’t know exactly what I witnessed back there, but it’s obviously important.”

“This isn’t something I can explain without Eden.” I threw my leg over my own cycle, but we kept them off.
