“It’s not that I don’t love you. It’s that I love you too much, and I don’t deserve you. I don’t deserve—”
I get up from the cot and rush to him. Standing on my tippy-toes, I plant my lips on his, disallowing him from finishing his sentence. He returns the kiss but pulls away before it deepens.
“We’ll talk about this later.”
I smile, pleased there’s still hope.
Shortly after he leaves, the tent flap opens again, and a woman walks in with a tray.
As I’m about to greet her, I glimpse her face, and my blood runs cold as I look upon the woman that is the very face of bitter resentment.
Irma isn’t just Russ’s girl.
Irma is also Gunther’s girl.
Once a teacher, she went on to become one of Gunther’s most trusted confidants, and because I was one of Gunther’s favorites, she lived to see me suffer.
“What are you doing here?” I demand, taking a hostile stance.
“You need to come with me.”
“Like hell!”
“If you don’t, your son dies.”
At those words, I stand defeated.
“Take me to my son.”

CHANGE OF PLAN
COLE
“You can’t be serious?” Selina scoffs, mouth ajar.
“She’s not the devil we thought she was,” I say, hoping to get through to her.
“Look, I don’t blame you for fucking her. Most men would. But expecting us to work with the little demon is a bit much.”
“She’s not related to Gunther.”
Dane smirks. “Then I guess she won’t be forming a support group with Gabe and Brooke.”
Blake bursts out laughing, and even I chuckle.
Selina crosses her arms over her chest. “What reason could she possibly have for protecting such a bastard?”
“Because Gunther is holding her son.”
The room goes quiet as my words sink in.
“She can’t be a mom,” Dane finally says. “She’s like…nineteen?”
“She was young. Around sixteen.”
“Damn, even younger than I was,” Selina mutters under her breath.
