My jaw drops because while I am aware of just how cruel the world has become, having her spit such fire at me is jarring.
I want to comfort her, but I don’t have the words to. I’d thought that since we’d rescued her from such a vulgar place, she’d be thrilled with the arrangement.

“Do what you’re going to do, but don’t act like you’re some chivalrous protector of women. You’re a predator, just like every other man on this filthy planet.”
I can’t argue with her.
She turns around and begins to weep.
