“If you must know, the First Circle: Limbo,” Eva says. “We won’t be neighbors, because you’ll be in the Second Circle.”
“And what’s that?” Britney asks.
“Lust.”
Why did Eva have to say that?
Eva starts forward and gestures for us to follow. “Let’s get you to your rooms.”
We drop Brooke and Gabriel off, then continue to an apartment down the hall. Eva hands us our keycards.
“Wait,” a look of panic lights Britney’s eyes, “why does he get a key to my apartment?”
Eva gives her an apologetic look. “Because you’ll be sharing it.”
“Are there not enough rooms?”
Eva’s eyes dart to me. “He’ll…he’ll tell you more when I leave.”
“I don’t want you to leave!”
“I have to. Clint will only watch the ankle biters for so long.”
Seeing Britney get so worked up makes me feel bad, but hopefully, once I tell her the situation, she’ll understand.
Eva smiles. “I know this is hard, but you’re going to be well taken care of here. I have to go now, but I look forward to seeing you around.”
Eva heads out the door, leaving me alone with my girl.
Christine gave her a pair of Keep-issued sweats, but I’ll take her to one of the storage areas so she can pick out some new clothes. God, I hope she likes wearing dresses.
“Hey, ah, my name is Alistair.”
“I know,” she deadpans.
“Um, are you hungry?”
“The doctor gave me food.”
“We should probably talk.”
Her eyes snap to mine. “What did you mean when you said you were claiming me?”
I think back to my warning to Dane on the chopper. “It’s just…we’re at the Keep and—”
“You want to be my Keeper.” She frowns.
Apparently, she’s been brought up to speed.
“Yeah, um…” I scratch the back of my head. I didn’t realize it was going to be this hard.
“So you’re going to rape me.”
My eyes widen in horror. “No—heck no! I wouldn’t do that.”
“If you’re going to force me to be with you, then at least call it what it is.”
