The swell ofpower was intoxicating, as if the Earth herself was feeding my magic. The dirt under my feet and the plants and trees around me were my army. I didn’t bother trying to capture the other witches from the Coven of Shadows. Sienna was the only target I was concerned about.

This was the woman who killed my parents. Now that I knew the lightning strike hadn’t been random, the rage roared in my ears like a wildfire. Lillian had mused about tapping into my anger, to use the emotion to strengthen my magic, but that wasn’t what had awakened the Elemental force in my blood.

I had been angry when Sienna broke our coven’s circle and captured me, but I still hadn’t been able to produce any magic without an incantation, and that gag had left me defenseless.

It all had changed the moment she pointed a knife at Zeke’s chained wolf.

Love had awakened the Earth Elemental magic in my blood, and I suddenly understood my mother’s ferocity that day at the pond. It wasn’t that she had been angry. It was that she had loved me. And she’d moved the earth to keep me safe.

I’d done the same for Zeke.

Lightning arced through the dark sky, striking the tree. Fire ignited at the top, shooting all the way to the roots, and fire licked up through the earth as Sienna struggled.

I looked up at her. “I should let you burn.”

Thunder cracked overhead. I reached my hand back, calling the huge flat boulder where Zeke had been chained. It lifted and came to me. It stopped above me like a monolith umbrella to shield me from her lightning.

Instead, another strike hit the branches holding her pinned. She fell to the ground and raised her hands. “If I die, Zeke stays trapped as a wolf forever.”

That got my attention. “I don’t believe you.”

Suddenly, the huge red wolf broke through the underbrush and stopped beside me.

Sienna’s mouth twitched. “Then why is he still a wolf?”

I glanced at Zeke. “Can you shift back?”

The wolf looked at me, then focused on Sienna and growled, baring his sharp teeth. Shit. I’d have to compromise. Before I could open my mouth, Zeke spun around and moved behind me, snapping at one of werewolves who had haunted my nightmares. They must’ve been Sienna’s sons. Why else would they be here with her?

The red wolf bared his sharp teeth as a growl rumbled deep in his chest.

We were outnumbered, and keeping the huge stone over us was wearing me out.

“Lift your magic from Zeke, and I’ll let you and your sons live.”

Sienna smoothed her robe with a smug smile. “You’re in no position to bargain.”

“The fuck she isn’t.”

I spun around to find the two big twins I’d seen outside of Mathias’s standing behind me, the rest of the pack behind them. Sienna had teleported me here, so I didn’t know how far we were from the farm, but I had never been happier to see a pack of werewolves.

On the other side of them, Amelia already had a fireball glowing in her hand. “I’d say you’re the one in trouble. Looks like the Coven of Shadows abandoned you.”

Sienna clenched her jaw. “Shawn and Samuel, come to me.”

“No.” I shook my head, remembering that teleportation spell. “They don’t move until you release Zeke from your magic.”

Sienna stared at her sons, now surrounded by the pack and my coven. Her silver eyes met mine. “This changes nothing. Immortality will be mine.”

I didn’t flinch at her threat. Sweat rolled down my back despite the snow falling around me. I couldn’t hold this rock much longer, but if I tossed it aside, she could finish this negotiation with one lightning bolt. “Let him go. I won’t ask again.”

She quickly spit out an incantation. It wasn’t Gaelic. Maybe Latin. I didn’t recognize it. As soon as she finished, the wolf stumbled and fell to the ground. Bones snapped, and I winced. I’d never seen a shift in real time.

I looked over at the pack. “Is she hurting him?”

“No.” The big one with brown hair and brown eyes stepped forward. “He’s shifting back.”

“Okay.” I nodded. “Let them go.”
