An heir… We hadn’t talked about kids. But there would be time for that later. I shook Wyatt’s hand. “Good to meet you.”

He slid his hand up to clasp my forearm. “This is the traditional pack greeting. You’re my Alpha’s mate. That makes you pack now.”

I blinked and looked over at Zeke, who was beaming despite the bluish tint of his chest. “Welcome to the pack.”

I grinned and shook my head. “We need to get you a jacket before you freeze to death.”

He chuckled and looked around at his packmates. “Thanks for coming for me tonight.”

Another man with striking blue eyes and black hair came forward. “We can’t lose our Alpha on his first night.” He turned to me and clasped my forearm. “I’m Jackson.”

I recognized the name. “You’re the P.I. who has been looking into Sienna, right?”

He nodded. “She’s obviously living under a different identity now, but I’ll keep searching. We’ll find her and her witch-blood sons.”

“Thank you.” I squeezed Zeke’s hand. “I can meet everyone else later when we’re not freezing in the snow.”

“Good idea.” He looked at Wyatt. “Will you tell Mathias I’m staying with my mate tonight, but I’ll be by in the morning to talk about the situation? He might not be happy she’s the new high priestess of the coven.”

Wyatt laughed. “He’ll be so glad you found your mate, he won’t give a shit that she’s a witch.”

I hoped he was right, but Lillian and Mathias had lived through the mess of Sienna and Victor. They could have a problem with a wolf and a witch union.

We trudged back through the snow. Because Sienna had teleported me to the Coven of Shadows circle, I had no idea how far we were from the farm, but at least the walk was warming me up a little.

Under my breath, I grumbled, “I need to learn that teleportation spell.”

Wyatt must’ve heard my whining because he looked over his shoulder. “It’s only about a mile from the bluff. We tracked Zeke’s scent to find you.”

I reached up to untie my robe, and Zeke frowned. “What are you doing?”

“I was about to offer you my robe before you freeze.”

He shook his head. “I’ll be fine. Besides, you can warm me up later.” He winked, and my heart pounded and melted all at once. And I was supposed to be the magic one. He tugged my hand, pulling me in closer to him. “If you want to help keep me warm, hop on my back and I’ll carry you to the bluff.”

I raised a brow. “You’re going to give me a piggyback ride for a mile?”

“Sure. Why not?”

I laughed. “Aren’t you exhausted?”

“Aren’t you?” He moved in front of me and bent his knees. “Your body heat will defrost me.” He looked back at me. “Let me take care of my mate.”

How could I resist? I wrapped my arms and legs around him, and his hands slid under my thighs as he stood. The chill of his skin soaked right through my clothes. I shivered. He really was freezing.

I kissed his neck and whispered into his ear, “Can’t wait to warm you up properly.”

He broke into a run, and I squeaked with surprise as I tightened my hold on him. He jogged past the pack and called out, “See you guys tomorrow!”

I tipped my head back laughing as the snowflakes drifted down from the dark sky.

We had almost been sacrificed to grant a witch’s hunger for immortality tonight, but right now, running through the snow, clinging to the man I loved, I’d never been happier.

CHAPTER 24

Zeke

Once we werein my truck, I turned on the engine and cranked up the heat. I looked over at Ruby and smiled. “You were amazing tonight.”
