And there it was: a giant spider, perched in the corner of her bed.

Trish felt a cold chill run down her spine as she stared at it. She wanted to scream, but all she could do was stand there, frozen in fear. It couldn’t be real. She had never seen anything like this at all—let alone here, in America. The spider was huge and black, almost like a tarantula. Was this some sort of prank?

But then, it moved.

It jumped at her and bit her again, and Trish screamed as the spider attacked her. Trish could feel herself getting weak, even as she screamed and tried to smack it off. It kept biting. Panic started to set in as Trish realized the severity of her situation. She had to call for help, but where was her phone? With trembling hands, she searched around her bed—where had she put it?

Finally she managed to flick the spider away, and it scurred across the room.

She was feeling weak, and she couldn’t find her phone.

Trish’s breathing became shallow, and she could feel her heart racing. Her vision started to blur and spots appeared in front of her eyes. The room started to spin, and she fell to the floor.

As Trish lay on the floor, her eyes slowly fluttered shut.

That was when she saw it—the last thing she’d ever see.

There was a greeting card on her floor.

She hadn’t put that there.

Trish felt a wave of nausea wash over her, and everything went dark.

CHAPTER TWELVE

The hotel bed was so soft and plush, like a cloud, yet Fiona couldn’t sleep.

She gazed out at the stars through the curtain for hours, wishing her mind would just relax and let her get some rest. But she was spiraling on so many different thoughts; from Jake, to Mark, and even to Joslyn.

She was worried about Jake. Worried about how he was going to feel moving forward without Lauren. Worried that she—Fiona—wouldn’t be enough to help him.

And then there was Mark. He was such a nice guy, and yet she had to admit, part of her still had a crush on Jake. She hoped it would go away soon.

Then, finally, Joslyn.

In a strange way, Fiona felt closer than ever to knowing what had happened to her sister, and yet still further away. It was like she’d been living in blissful ignorance for years, believing she just didn’t have the power to find out what happened to her sister, but ever since teaming up with Jake, she’d seen strength in herself that she didn’t even know she had.

Joslyn had simply vanished all those years ago, but she had to be out there somewhere, right? There had to be a trace of her. Even if it was her body.

Fiona rested her head back on the pillow and sighed, letting herself melt into the covers…

“Fifi.”

Fiona’s eyes snapped open at the sound of a voice. A girl’s voice.

Fifi…

No one had ever called her that… except her older sister. Joslyn.

Confused, Fiona shuffled up in the bed.

And there, standing at the edge of her bed, was her sister.

Fiona froze, unable to believe what she was seeing.

Joslyn looked just the same as she had when she was seventeen. She was even wearing the same bikini she’d worn at the beach that day she went missing.

And yet she was here. In Fiona’s room.
