“J-Jos?” Fiona managed. “You’re… you’re alive?”

“Yes,” she said. “I’m alive. I’ve been here the whole time, trying to find a way back to you.”

Fiona couldn’t help but let out a cry of joy as she leapt out of bed and wrapped her sister in a tight hug.

“I thought I’d never see you again,” Fiona said, tears streaming down her face.

Joslyn returned the hug, and the two sisters shared a moment of long overdue reunion.

“You don’t have to worry anymore,” Joslyn said softly. “I’m here now, and I’m not going anywhere.”

Fiona smiled, nodding against her sister’s shoulder, feeling the love of their family bond stronger than ever before.

“But how?” Fiona said. “How is this possible?”

Joslyn didn’t reply.

She also didn’t move. Her body became cold, frozen beside Fiona.

“Joslyn?” Fiona asked.

She shuffled over—and Joslyn’s body fell to the bed, as stiff as a board, her eyes staring blankly above, rigor mortis set in.

Fiona felt a chill run through her body. She realized with a start that her sister had been dead all along.

Fiona’s heart shattered into a million pieces. She had found her sister at last, only to lose her to the cold embrace of death.

But then Joslyn’s eyes shot open again. She rocketed up in the bed—and her hand flew right at Fiona’s throat.

“You!” she shouted. “You killed me!”

Fiona screamed in shock and horror, trying to back away.

But it was too late. Joslyn’s fingers were around her neck, squeezing tighter and tighter.

Fiona felt the darkness creeping in around her. She was fading away into nothing.

And then, suddenly, she felt a warm hand on her shoulder.

“Fiona, wake up.”

Fiona’s eyes shot open. She was back in her hotel bed, the morning light streaming in through the curtains.

She looked to her side and saw Jake standing there, looking down at her with a concerned expression. “Sorry, I heard you screaming…”

Fiona placed her hand on her sweaty forehead and shuffled up in her bed. She was too shell-shocked from the dream to think about the fact that she was in pajamas, and Jake was standing over her bed.

“It was just a dream,” he said softly, sitting at the edge of her bed. “You okay?”

Fiona’s heart was pounding. A dream. But it had felt so real.

She looked up at Jake and nodded, still trying to catch her breath.

“It was just a dream,” he said again, his voice full of compassion.

Fiona looked into his eyes and felt her fear slowly begin to ebb away. She nodded and smiled, thankful for his presence.

“Thank you,” she said, her voice still trembling. “I’ve… never had a dream like that. It was so real.”
