“You were amazing. You did what you had to do.”

She nods slowly, standing on shaky legs.

I step over fallen bodies and grab her by the arm, guiding her around the table in order to pull her against my body. Both of our faces are flushed from the fight, a sheen of sweat glimmering all over her forehead.

I kiss her. Deep and urgently. Like I need air and she is the only source for it. She moans against my lips and wraps her arms around me, holding me tight as we finally come down from the high.

Seeing her covered in blood is something I never thought I’d see, but God damn does she wear it well.

I pull her back with my hand on the back of her neck, licking my lips as I stare down into those heavy eyes.

“Nella, I would really like to fuck you right now.”

CHAPTERTWENTY-FOUR

Ava meets us at the townhouse, her eyes wide at seeing the state of our bloody clothes as she gets out of her car.

“Jesus,” she breathes out, kicking her door shut. “What the fuck happened?”

I shake my head, tucking Nella tight into my side as I lead her into the house.

“Hired hit. We took care of it.”

“Fuck,” Ava says from behind us, following us inside.

I stop in the foyer and turn Nella around to face me, cupping her face again and kissing her pursed lips.

“Go take a shower. We’ll figure out what to do once you’re all cleaned up.”

She sags into me. It takes everything in me not to sweep her off her feet and carry her up the stairs myself.

“Okay,” she says softly.

“Good girl.” I kiss her head again and pry my arms away from her; sad that her body heat leaves me almost immediately. She looks back at me before heading up the stairs, her body slow from being jerked around so harshly at the restaurant.

If I could, I’d kill those guys all over again for daring to lay their hands on her.

“Killian, what the fuck happened?”

I shake my head and touch Ava’s arm lightly, guiding her over into the living room. I flop down onto the couch, not caring if I get any blood on the suede cushions.

Ava sits down tentatively next to me, tucking her legs in close to her body while she waits for me to speak. I rub my hand over my face, feeling the crusted blood starting to flake off. Fuck, I need a shower too.

“We were at the restaurant and some hitmen, most likely Edgar’s, came in and started shooting up the place.

“Fuck,” Ava breathes out.

“Yeah. I know.” I shake my head and lean it against the back of the couch, sinking into the soft cushions. “I’m getting tired of this. I really am. All I want to do is enjoy my time with Nella, but we keep getting interrupted by either her fucking family or Edgar.”

I punch my fist against the cushion next to my thigh. It makes my hand bounce.

Ava is quiet beside me, most likely assessing the situation and trying to come up with a plan that my tired brain is too rattled to do right now. That’s why I relied on her so heavily. She was my moving operations center when my own was down for commission.

“You really have feelings for her, don’t you, Killian?”

I blink and turn to look at her.

“Excuse me?”
