I raise my brow. “How was it supposed to go down exactly?”

“Killian was supposed to keep you safe.”

“I have.” Killian crosses his arms over his chest. “Andwarm.”

“Ugh,” my brother makes a disgusted face.

I nudge both of them, not wanting to really divulge my entire sex life with my own brother due to Killian being a prideful piece of shit. “Shall we head inside? I’m sure there are more things we need to discuss.”

“Right.” Enzo nods at all of us. “Follow me.”

CHAPTERTWENTY-FIVE

It turns out that Enzo did indeed have more things to tell us.

As soon as he’d gotten off the phone with me, he’d gone straight back to his father’s manor and left a confession of betrayal on his desk, hoping to lure both Marco and Edgar out to the lake house.

I didn’t question his methods or his impulsivity. Now that the deed had been done, it was time to get ready.

I ordered as many of my men to head to the mansion and set up barriers in order to keep us from being blindsided—Enzo did the same.

He’d collected loyal associates during his time running our coup. Together, we’d been able to combine forces in hopes that we were a match against whatever army Edgar and Marco would be bringing to our doorstep.

I’d been apprehensive ever since, pacing around and knocking some heads in when my side of the mafia clashed with Enzo’s side. None of us had time for petty squabbles and dick-measuring contests. Right now, we all have a common enemy.

That’s all we need to focus on.

Nella has been keeping me as calm as she could, despite me wanting to take her far away from here. I don’t want her to become unnecessary collateral damage in this. Because as much as I don’t want to admit to myself that it is true, her getting hurt or killed would absolutely wreck me.

“Killian.”

I turn to the sound of Enzo’s voice, seeing him come inside from where we’d been having our men warm up in the backyard.

“What happened?”

Enzo takes the rag that is hanging over his shoulder and wipes his hands with it. A sour expression is on his face.

“Some of our men were getting into another scuffle.”

I grit my teeth. If I have to break up one more fight…

“Nella handled it, though.’

I blink at him. “She did?”

Enzo nods. “Yeah. Held a knife up to their throats and everything. It was quite the sight. I see you’ve been teaching her some things.”

I can’t help but grin to myself. No matter how bad things get, Nella continues to surprise me.

“You’re damn right.”

I put a hand on Enzo’s shoulder and squeeze it tightly.

“We’ll need to figure out what we’re going to do after all of this is over.”

He raises a brow at me. “After my father and Edgar are dead?”

“Mhm. Will we combine forces, or keep our families separate?”
