Roman Moreno.

The son of my father’s sworn enemy.

And because of that.

My sworn enemy.

A smile spread over my face. This was going to be easier than I thought.

??

Natasha was my personal maid and had been since I was young. For the time I’d been away, she had been a good friend for the most part but I knew she held back on the details of what was going on around here. Still, she kept me safe when my parents couldn’t. She had been my constant companion when I’d been a child and she had all but raised me when my mother decided it was too hard to be a mother.

I couldn’t really fault her all that much, she’d been a child herself when I was born.

As Natasha pulled the eyelashes from my eyelids, I tried not to blink the remnants of the glue into my eye. I’d always hated these fucking things but they did make your eyes pop.

Ah, what a horrid thing it is to be a woman and to need such atrocities.

My thoughts zeroed back on Roman and the way he stared at me like he wanted a taste of forbidden fruit.

“Do you know much of the Moreno’s?” I asked her.

She was stunned, I’d never been interested before, but she simply shrugged. “Not a lot.”

“Do you know Marshall Moreno has a son?”

“Yes, of course.”

“I never knew that,” I told her. “I found out tonight.”

Natasha was avoiding my gaze, and that immediately told me she knew more than what she was saying.

“Tash,” I said. “Tell me about him.”

“He’s no good, Jolie, you should not ask about him.”

“Please,” I said. “I feel like I don’t know anything anymore. I’ve been gone for too long.”

Natasha rolled her eyes, and put one hand on her hip. “That does not work with me. You are not the sweet little angel you once were. You may have your family fooled but you cannot fool me.”

I let go of my sweet little voice and stood up, wiping my face with my rosewater tonic to remove my makeup. “Fine. Tell me though, you’re my employee and I demand it.”

“That’s more like it,” she said. “Whatever you desire, mistress.”

I rolled my eyes at her fake obedience. I pulled my dress off and flicked it to her. She draped it over her arm and waited for me to pull my bra and panties off. The woman had no shame. She’d been dressing and undressing me for years before I left. I flicked my bra off and then my panties, kicking them to her feet with a smirk. She bent down and retrieved them as I pulled on my slinky teddy.

“Well?”

“Why must you know?” she asked me. “He’s your enemy too.”

“Just answer me.”

Natasha sighed. “He is twenty four years old, and he acts as an enforcer for his criminal father. He’s stone cold, from what I have heard, and many girls desire him. He is good looking, yes, but he is also the devil. Stay away from him.”

“Why is he so feared?”

“He will do what he must to succeed. He rose in the ranks of his father’s army very quickly. By age sixteen he had amassed a great deal of fear. I don’t know a lot about it since I don’t live on that side but I know your cousin Rose knows him well, not that Tyler would be too happy about that.”
