His eyes went from zero to a hundred in the space of seconds and I felt the hand come up again. I blocked it this time much to his surprise and anger.

“You-” he started but instead of continuing on a rant, he grabbed me by my arm and launched me across the foyer. I lost my balance and fell to my knees as I slid across the marble floor. The burn from the polished marble on my bare skin was enough to make me cry out, the stairs hitting my back hard caused me to scream. Edward was walking toward me like a predator.

“Please, sir,” I heard Natasha come out of one of the rooms off to the side of the foyer. “Please, no.”

“Get out of here,” he ordered her but she stayed where she was, looking down at me with horror.

“You will obey me,” he said through gritted teeth. He pulled his belt from the loops of his pants and he folded it up before he came over to me. I knew he wouldn’t hesitate, I could see it in his icy gaze.

“Sir, please, no,” Natasha cried out.

He seemed to hesitate, looking over at her. For a moment, I thought he would whip her but his posture relaxed. He slowly looked back at me, his gaze telling me he wasn’t to be trifled with.

“You will do as I say from now on, Jolie. You are my property until I give you to someone and I intend on doing that. In a week from tomorrow, you will marry Paul and you will do it willingly or I’ll have you taken to the middle of the ocean and I will personally drown you, do you understand?”

I held my head up high even though I felt woozy. My stomach threatened to unleash its contents but I bit down on my tongue. I didn’t say a word.

“Do you understand?” he repeated.

I ground out the only response I could fathom. “Yes.”

The pain from my injuries was worse than I first thought as Natasha rushed over to me. The second she lifted me up, I felt my vision begin to blur and darken.

Roman

The second Edward had slapped Jolie across the face in the car, I’d been on my way to pulling him out of the car to beat him senseless. The white hot rage inside of me had me seeing red. The coward had driven away just before I got to the door.

Asshole.

Usually, I didn’t care if I saw that. I was a victim of beatings from my father too but there was something about Jolie I couldn’t shake.

She was mine. And he had the audacity to lay a hand on her on my side of the city.

I didn’t care about the repercussions right now. I needed her back. I needed her with me, and I would wage all out war on anyone who tried to come between me and that daring little minx.

I got in my car and sped to my mother’s house. I knew my cousin Ben would be there for dinner with my father and mother, something I rarely attended.

When I got to the garage, I saw that only Ben’s car was there and not my father’s. Curious, but not enough for me to care. Not in my current state of mind. I ran up the stairs to the apartment floor and used my key to get in. My mother was sipping at her usual martini as Ben and Gunnar looked over at me with shock.

“Come for dinner, my love?” she asked, surprised. I couldn’t remember the last time I had come for dinner so the look of surprise on her face was normal.

“No, I need to speak with the boys.”

“Oh, right,” she said with a smile. The ever dutiful wife that she was, she got up and left us alone to talk. She’d always obeyed my father no matter how stupid the request was. I always hated that she had never questioned him, not once, on any of his dealings or the fact he was an abusive father to me.

But I still loved her. She was my mother, after all.

“What’s going on?” Gunnar asked, his eyes telling me immediately that he knew it was serious. He was probably trying to figure out what he was going to need to do in order to help me with his father.

“Caldwell was on our side,” I started. “Jolie snuck over to see me and he grabbed her and slapped the shit out of her right in front of me.”

Ben’s eyes were wide, and Gunnar looked at me like I was crazy. Maybe I was, but I needed my two best men to help me here.

“She’s a Caldwell,” Gunnar said. “She shouldn’t be here and she’s his fucking daughter. Of course he has every right to take her back.”

“And be beaten?”

“Gun’s right, Romy,” Ben said. “We can’t get involved in that shit. It’s a death sentence.”
