I just hoped I could save Jolie.

Chapter Nine

Jolie

Theweatherwasturning,I could see the sun battling against the clouds as I looked out at the horizon. My father refilled my drink and I turned to give him the fakest smile I could muster. He had been so pleased I was behaving that I think I finally had him fooled.

“It’s getting crazy out there,” he stated.

“I agree, the weather’s really turning.”

“Be glad we’re here,” he said, looking out at the guests of this shindig. That’s when I saw her.

Someone I had once loved, now my arch enemy.

Rose.

“Why’s Rose here?”

“She needs a husband too,” he said simply. “Don’t fear, she won’t take the one you want. I can assure you of that. Rose knows her place.”

Does she, though?

Rose pasted on her own fake smile and headed our way, giving my father a greeting that was too nice for what he deserved before she joined me. Edward moved off to greet some more people and probably try and have someone come and try to stake a claim on the only heir to the Caldwell fortune, that didn’t exist.

“I’m surprised you came back,” she said, looking out at everyone in the room and not in my eyes.

“Well, I am a Caldwell,” I told her. “This is where I belong.”

“I doubt you’d give Roman up that easily. He’s hard to get over.”

“I’m not a sap like you, Rose. I don’t fall very easily.”

“Bullshit,” she said. “I know you’re planning something. He turned me down for you, I highly doubt he’d let you go so easily unless he knew you were spying for him.”

I chuckled at her innocence. “I don’t need to spy for him. I’m here for my own sanity, believe me, the amount of times Roman and I fucked on that boat were eye watering. Maybe I need a little break from him.”

I could see she was getting angry. She didn’t want to think of Roman with me. I got it, the thought of him touching Rose with those hands, that delicious cock, and the way he could fuck me so hard I thought I may split in half, made me want to throw her from the building.

“So you are still with him?” she asked, turning to face me. “You’re planning something.”

“What would that have to do with you?” I asked her.

“I’ll tell Edward that you’re still in love with Roman.”

“Just as you are,” I spat back immediately. “Do you imagine he’d be happy with the fact that his niece was the one who introduced his daughter to the enemy?”

“He wouldn’t believe you,” she said, but I could see the uncertainty in her eyes.

“I think he may. I’m his only child and if I choose to do as he says, would he really care what I could do to him? He thinks his empire is safe, but he doesn’t know what I’m capable of and he’ll never find out. You, on the other hand, have everything to lose if he tosses you out.”

“Oh yeah?”

“Yeah,” I said with confidence. “Believe me, Rose, you have no idea what I’m capable of. You haven’t seen me grow up or what I was taught at that school. If you so much as breathe a blip of what I have planned, I’ll torture you to death but not before I expose you to Tyler and to my father. They’ll disown you and you’ll have nothing. By the end of it, you’ll watch me walk away with the man you love, and with no one to love you back. You’ll pray for an easy end but you won’t get it, I’ll make sure you suffer in every way possible.”

Her lower lip quivered but she didn’t respond. Instead, she took her classless ass and moved to schmooze with some loser with money.

She may try to tell Edward but she wouldn’t get very far. I’d already hacked into his account and slowly, I was changing his plans for the development. I was so close. I just needed a little more time.
