Three craggy old fishermen sitting up at the bar lifted their pints in gratitude.

“They remind me of the trio in that ‘Old Greg’ skit from Mighty Boosh,” Ethan said.

Declan laughed loudly.

“I’ve seen that on YouTube. It’s fucking hilarious. Those three men stuffed together in the overgrown jumper playing Irish jigs,” I said.

Everyone joined me in a laugh.

Manon returned and pulled a face. “What’s everyone laughing about?” Her pretty eyes did a sweep of the group before landing on my face and making me forget what we were talking about.

“Just this skit in a crazy Brit show,” Theadora said.

“Oh. I don’t watch television. Haven’t got the time.” She sounded a little uncertain as she spoke.

I wondered if something was wrong.

She stood next to me, and then, much to my horror, Kylie arrived. Given she lived in the village and that was the only pub, I shouldn’t have jumped to conclusions about why she was there.

Just as I was inventing some excuse for leaving, jasmine hit my nasal passage—a scent that conjured up all kinds of sweet, dirty memories—radiating from Manon’s long, dark hair.

I wasn’t going anywhere.

Chapter 13

Manon

“Youinvitedher?”Iasked.

“Nope.” Drake gave off an edgy vibe. He kept sweeping his hand over the curl that fell across his forehead, and all I wanted to do was suggest we leave so I could seduce him.

Fuck you, Rey. I’ll keep seeing him if I like.

“Oh. Here she comes, looking like she’s ready to pounce. Maybe I should say hi to Max.” I cocked my head towards a labourer from Declan’s organic farm who, though kind of hot, wasn’t Drake.

No one was.

I cringed at how childish I sounded, trying to make him jealous.

However, the thought of Kylie or any other woman fucking Drake made me green with jealousy.

Drake belonged to me.

If only Kylie wasn’t so gorgeous, with her thick blonde hair, big boobs, and long legs.

“You can do whatever you want.” I was just about to give him the middle finger when he added, “I’m not into Kylie. You know that. I’ve told you often enough.”

His tone was rough and almost angry, which only made me want him more. I wanted him to be rough with me. Physical pain was preferable to the crazy shit in my head.

Savanah joined me at the bar. “How are you? You look a little off colour.”

“I’m okay.” I sighed. “Just men problems.”

She smiled sympathetically. “I thought you and Drake were together?”

Kylie had cornered him for what looked like a heart-to-heart. I couldn’t see his face, but she was almost on top of him.

“It looks like he’s got a girlfriend.”
