With that, I abruptly spun on my heel, turning to find Danielle as quickly as possible. I had thought Jamie was right behind me, but when I spared a glance over my shoulder, I saw the two of them talking, laughing, and getting to know one another.

No, this was not a good thing. Not a good thing at all.

CHAPTER10

“What were you thinking, Jamie?”I hissed my question through clenched teeth as Jamie and I entered our home several hours later.

“I don’t have the slightest idea what you’re talking about, sweetheart.” The smug look on his face told me he knewexactlywhat I was talking about.

“Thatcher Wells is our neighbor.”

“And a man you have scened with at Haven.”

“And that’s exactly my point.”

“What point is that, love? I’m confused.” He was teasing me, but it didn’t matter.

“As Septus, he is a man I scene with at Haven. As Thatcher, he is our neighbor, plain and simple. Not the same thing.”

“But it is the same man.”

“No, it’s not the same,” I argued.

“Yes, it is Sadie. He is the same man. Not everything is so divisible.”

“What is that supposed to mean?” I eyed him carefully.

“It means that you can’t continue splitting your life and yourself into two different boxes.” His words stung, there was no denying it.

“Yes, I can. It keeps things nice and clean and simple,” I said, doubling down on my stance on the matter.

“But that’s the thing, my love. Life is not clean and simple. People are most definitely not clean and simple.”

“Well, I would hope people would be clean, at the very least.” I scoffed before smiling and waving at one of our neighbors across the yard.

“Don’t mince my words here. You can’t look at Thatcher and Septus as two separate people. They are the same man, and treating him that way isn’t fair to him.”

“How would you know?” I was being defiant and argumentative, but I needed him to see my point here.

“Because I see you treat yourself with the same amount of disrespect, and it’s not okay.”

“I do not disrespect myself or my submissives, thank you very much.”

“You do if you ask him to turn off a part of himself like that.”

“I asked him nothing,” I said, pointing out the facts.

“You did, by refusing to acknowledge him as the same man you played with only days ago.”

“It’s a boundary, Jamie,” I stated resolutely.

“No, it’syourself-imposed boundary. If you want to keep your two worlds separate, that’s one thing. But asking someone else to do the same is not okay. It’s not appropriate to superimpose your boundaries and requirements for another person. Have you talked to him about that? And most importantly, did he agree to those terms?” His question caught me off guard.

“I… um…” I stammered. I didn’t have a good answer, and I knew it. Jamie was right. At least on that part.

“That’s what I thought. You need to go talk to him, Sadie.” He urged me gently, and I had no argument to give.

“He’ll be coming over in a little while, and I’ll talk to him then.”
