“I just have to ask…” Jamie began hesitantly.

“Ask what?” I sighed with frustration.

“What is it that’s holding you back? You and Thatcher have so much chemistry, I swear it literally sizzles.”

“Don’t inflate the situation, Jamie.” I rolled my eyes.

“I’m not. You’re ignoring what’s right in front of your face. Or am I wrong? Did the sight of him getting out of the pool not make you wet? Did you not want to touch him, to kiss him, to do even more with him while we talked tonight?” He eyed me knowingly, and I shrugged it off.

“You don’t know what you’re talking about.” I scoffed, shaking my head.

“You won’t admit what you feel. I know you, Sadie Day, almost better than you know yourself. Why do you insist on denying yourself something you so obviously want? He wants it. You want it. I want it for you.” His resounding belief in our love, his resilience in the life we shared floored me, yet did not dissuade me from my decision.

“I’m happy with my life.”

“Then why won’t you go out on a limb and find actual joy in life?” He sighed with exasperation.

“You think I don’t find joy in our life?” I spat the words, crossing my arms over my chest as frustration filled me.

“That’s not what I’m saying. I’m saying that you could have more. You could have it all if you’d only let go and try.” His voice was pleading.

“It’s not that simple.” I sighed heavily, frustrated at the conversation we seemed to come back to time and time again lately.

“Yes, it is. You’re just deflecting. You name off your typical list of issues, but Sadie, I’ve never seen you like this before. There is something there between you and Thatcher, so go for it.”

“It could ruin everything.”

“Or it couldbeeverything,” he argued gently.

“I swear, you and Pamela share the same brain sometimes,” I said with a shake of my head. The sound of a knock at the door interrupted our conversation. My heart thudded, my stomach flipped in my abdomen for a split second. Thatcher was here. I wasn’t sure if I was feeling excitement, nerves, dread, or all of the above.

“We don’t share a brain, love. I just called and talked to her this morning and happened to agree with her. I’ll leave you two to it.” Jamie kissed my temple and made his way to the front door.

“Thatcher, good to see you again! Come on in. Sadie’s in the living room.”

I heard the front door close, and could hear Jamie’s footsteps on the stairs, giving us privacy.

“Hello, Sadie.” Thatcher’s voice behind me had butterflies fluttering in my stomach. I did my best to squash them, putting on my best Domme face, and turned to greet him. I did my best to not let the mere sight of him affect me, but I would be lying if I said his smile and the way he lazily leaned into the doorway wasn’t sexy as hell.

“Thatcher. Do come in.” I gestured to the sofa for him to sit while I took the chair beside it. “Can I get you something to drink?”

He simply held up the water bottle in his hand.

“Oh, right. So what is it you wanted to discuss?”

“I want to scene with you again,” he said, his request clear, blatant, and resounding.

“I’m not sure that’s a good idea.”

“Why not?”

“Because last time you tried to kiss me.”

“Correction, I wanted to kiss you.”

“Yes, but that is a boundary for me.” I reminded him gently.

“Which is why I didn’t kiss you. We had this conversation. Is there a reason you do not want to scene with me?”
