“We’re bound to fight. You’re too stubborn for that not to happen.”

“Hello, pot, meet kettle.”

He let out a chuckle before he got serious. “I don’t like being alone as much as you might assume. And this wouldn’t work if you took my shit, or I took yours. But if you’re uncomfortable, then we could wait. Get to know each other better.”

“You’d be willing to do that?”

“Addy, this is an important decision. While I might be willing to jump in headfirst, I can’t expect the same from you.”

Normally I was a dive-in-head-first kind of girl too. “I want a baby.” My words burst out. Having the possibility almost within my grasp for the first time ever made me feel dizzy.

He stepped close, putting a knuckle under my chin while his other hand splayed over my stomach. “I want one too.”

I pulled the morning-after pill out of my purse and watched his eyes track my movements as I shoved it in the trash.

Suddenly I didn’t want to overthink this and play cautious. Instead, I wanted to take a leap of faith and start a family. Hell, how many people went into relationships starry-eyed with love and ended up divorced? But in our case, we’d know up front what this was and what it wasn’t.

“You’d help change diapers and take turns with staying home with sick kids? Because I intend to keep working, and I want a partnership, not to be treated like—”

My words were cut off when he swiftly lifted me onto the countertop and kissed me silly. Peppering more kisses down my neck and behind my ear, he said, “I’ll change all the diapers, run them to all the practices, wipe all the noses, put together all the toys on Christmas Eve, go to all the pretentious mommy play-date groups.”

A giggle escaped my lips. “You’d either scare all the other moms, or they’d want to sleep with you. Probably both.”

He pulled back, his gaze locked on mine. “The only person I’ll ever let these hands touch is you, Addy. I don’t have many redeeming qualities, but the ones I hold dear are loyalty and trust. You can trust I’ll be loyal to you and our family. Always.”

Damn. I swallowed hard at his intensity. In my gut, I knew this was not a man who broke promises. He might not ever love me, but I trusted him. I believed he’d do everything in his power to be a good partner and an even better father.

“I trust you.”

ChapterTwenty-Four

LEO

Three simple words. Yet hearing her say she trusted me meant the world.

“Is that a yes?” I held my breath, waiting on her answer.

“Yes. Let’s make a baby.”

A shiver of pure joy snaked through me. “Say it again.”

“Fuck me bare, Leo.”

My dick went rock hard at such a primal request, my hands pawing at her clothes, needing the barrier gone.

“You do yours. I’ll do mine.” She slid off the counter and took over undoing her buttons while I stripped off my own clothes.

Once she was naked, I took a moment to sweep my gaze over her incredible body. Then I hoisted her back onto the granite, spread her legs and stepped between them.

“I promise to take my time later, but right now I need to be inside of you.” I notched against her opening, the sound of her gasp at the contact fueling my desire.

“I need it too.”

I’d never been a religious man, but entering Addison bare was as close to a sacred experience as I’d ever had.

Sliding in slowly to avoid hurting her, I let out a breath when I discovered how unbelievably wet she was. “Does it turn you on to know I’m going to put a baby inside of you?”

She moaned low and slow. “Yes. It’s like you’ve unlocked another kink. And this one has me so hot.”
