No dots back.

“Is your boyfriend texting you?” Mal asked.

“Uh, it’s my friend, yeah.”

“Are we ever going to meet him?”

“At some point. Oh, I meant to ask how the dessert thing went at the Cosmopolitan?” Craig had taken her three nights ago.

The subject change took us through the arrival of the food. I was about to cut into my chicken when, of all people, Leo slid into the booth.

ChapterThirty

LEO

Ifucking missed her. Pacing my empty house, I cursed at the fact she hadn’t wanted to come over because she’d started her period. As if getting her pregnant was the only reason to spend time together. Yet she’d bagged off as if it was.

Then again, I hadn’t exactly asked her to hang out, had I? This was stupid. Grabbing my keys, I headed to her apartment, sending her a text to ensure she was there. Once she responded about being out with Malorie and Craig, I texted him to get the place.

As I walked in, I spotted her right away, her back to me, sitting in the booth. I took a moment to observe her as I often did. It seemed unbelievable how she’d come into my life and turned it upside down in the best possible way.

But a kernel of fear took hold deep in my stomach. Was I entitled to pursue this type of happiness? But as the panic started to invade my thoughts, Craig’s gaze caught mine, and I was propelled forward into the moment.

“Hello, Addison,” I murmured, coming up from behind and sliding in beside her. Her shocked smile and pretty lips were too much to ignore, so I leaned in and gave her a firm kiss.

“What?” came the gasp across from us.

Addy’s face was pink when I pulled away. “Guess the cat is out of the bag. Leo is the mystery guy,” she said on a laugh.

“Since when are you guys together?” Malorie’s question sounded like an accusation.

“Couple weeks,” I provided, grabbing one of Addy’s fries and shoving it in my mouth.

“And you didn’t tell me?” Addy’s cousin did not look happy about being kept in the dark.

“It was new, so we didn’t tell anyone. But I guess we’re telling you now.” Addy took a sip of her beer, not allowing her cousin to faze her.

In the meantime, Craig lifted his beer and held it up. “Cheers, brother.”

“Thanks.” Now that I’d ripped the Band-Aid off, I liked the idea of telling people we were together.

After we ate dinner, we all relaxed over beers, with Craig and Addison carrying most of the conversation. Malorie weirdly kept bouncing her gaze between me and her cousin.

As if she couldn’t retain her inner thoughts any longer, she burst out, “I don’t get it. You said he wasn’t your type. You said you met someone else.”

Addison sighed. “That someone was Leo, and it turns out we’re each other’s type, after all.”

I squeezed her leg under the table.

“But you’re, like, complete opposites.”

I didn’t care for her tone and challenged, “How so?”

“For one, you’re, like, fit, and she does anything to avoid exercise.”

Even Craig was stunned by her words. “Babe, enough.”

She threw up her hands, clearly oblivious to her own insensitivity. “What? This doesn’t make sense.”
