“What doesn’t make sense, exactly?” My temper was rising. This wasn’t the first time Malorie had sought to shame Addison for having a different body type, and I’d had enough.

Malorie opened her mouth and snapped it shut. I was sure her hesitation was caused in part by Craig reaching over to put his hand on hers.

But if I thought Addy would be passive about it, I was wrong. “Answer the question, Mal.”

Her cousin huffed. “I’m saying this is crazy.”

Addy put a hand on my forearm as if to tell me this was her fight. “Frankly, it doesn’t have to make sense to you. It only needs to make sense to us.”

Malorie’s entire face went a very angry red. “This is absurd.” She turned toward Craig. “Didn’t you say Leo wasn’t the type to settle down? That he only did one-night stands and didn’t like talking to girls?”

Now it was Craig’s turn to go bright red in the face. He met my gaze. “I didn’t mean anything by it. Just mentioned you didn’t do the girlfriend thing. Sorry, man, I shouldn’t have said anything.”

I gritted my teeth, disliking being the source of gossip. “No, you shouldn’t have.”

“I’m really happy for you guys,” he replied, trying to dig out of his hole.

Malorie glared at him. “How can you say that?”

Addison took another sip of her drink, before putting it down. “I’m ready to go.”

I slid out, taking cash out of my wallet and tossing it down on the table. “Me too.”

“They’re not the only ones. I’m leaving too.” Craig threw his own bills down and stood up.

Malorie was stunned. “What? you can’t leave.”

“You’re completely out of line, Mal,” Craig replied.

“Yes, she is,” Addy added. “Come on.” She took my hand and led me outside to the parking lot.

My coming to the restaurant and springing the surprise kiss on her had been a disaster. “I’m sorry for interrupting dinner and causing a scene.”

She shook her head. “You aren’t the one who should be apologizing. I can’t believe Mal would act like that. She has her bitchy moments, but tonight was one for the record books.”

I stayed quiet, not wanting to add to her frustration. “Did you bring your car?”

“No, I rode with Craig and Mal. I can take an Uber back.”

“Or you can come over.”

“It’s that time of month.”

“I know, but—” I’d missed her. “The thing is, I don’t hate hanging out with you.” Smooth, real fucking smooth.

Mercifully, she grinned. “What a coincidence as I don’t hate hanging out with you, either.”

My smile matched hers. “We could not hate hanging out together at my place if you want.”

“I don’t have my stuff.”

“I have extra toothbrushes, and you could wear my clothes—”

“I need tampons,” she blurted out.

“We’ll go by the pharmacy. Or I can drop you off at the house, and I’ll go instead.”

She arched a brow. “You’d buy me tampons?”
