Or the fact I couldn’t seem to get enough of her. She was the light I hadn’t known I needed. And as I’d told her, the very best thing to happen to me.

Craig knocked on my office door on a Tuesday afternoon. “Got a minute?”

“Yeah, what’s up?”

He took a seat, all smiles. “I’m moving in with Malorie.”

“Oh yeah?” It was funny how a couple months ago I would’ve cautioned him it was way too soon for living together, but now I held my tongue. They’d made up after their fight, and it seemed Craig was less infatuated and more realistic about who Malorie was. The relationship was evolving into something solid.

“Yeah. Who would’ve thought both of us would fall in love with cousins?”

I swallowed hard, not wanting to correct him because it would open up an entire conversation I didn’t want to have about my inability to give Addy a real relationship. “Yeah.”

“Any chance you’re available the weekend after next to help me move? Could use a hand with some stuff, not to mention you’ve got a truck.”

Taking a look at my calendar, I pulled up the weekend in question, two weeks hence. “Yeah, I can help on that Saturday. Unfortunately, I’m leaving the next day for Germany.” I had business in Europe helping my client, Chance Maxwell, with the security for his new nightclubs. I already dreaded spending the time away from Addison.

“Terrific. Appreciate it, buddy.” As he walked out my door, Addy came in.

“Hi.” Smiling, she walked up to my desk. “I have vendor checks for you to sign.”

Had it only been two hours since I’d seen her? It felt like longer. “Hi. Come to Germany and Spain with me in two weeks?”

Her eyes went wide, but she shook her head. “You’ll be busy all day and don’t need me as a distraction. Plus our new receptionist starts that week, so I need to be here for her training.”

I frowned, knowing she was right. I’d be working long days, and it wasn’t as if I could crawl into her bed and sleep with her at night. “The trip is scheduled to last a week, but I’ll be home sooner if I can.”

After finishing with my signatures, I pulled her into my lap, enjoying the way she giggled.

“See, this would be way too distracting,” she remarked.

My lips trailed up her neck. “My favorite kind of distraction. I’ll be late tonight, regrettably. Stupid meeting at the Wynn.” It was funny how work had been my favorite distraction up until I’d met Addison. Now I begrudged any time I didn’t get with her.

“I’ll make you my favorite dinner if you’re game for chicken nachos?”

I wasn’t as strict with my weekday diet these days. “Sounds good, kitten.”

She grinned. “You haven’t called me kitten in a while. Does this mean I’ve gotten less feisty?”

A chuckle rumbled in my chest. “Guess it means we’re getting along more these days. Although what I’m about to suggest is sure to piss you off.”

“Which is?”

“Give me your phone?”

“What? Why?”

“Because when I travel, I want to be able to see where you are with the find feature on our phones. It’s so I don’t have to worry.” Security and safety were in my blood. The ability to know where she was would make me feel less anxious about leaving her.

She leaned back, lifting a brow. “Does that mean I’ll be able to track you too?”

“Fair is fair. I’ll set up our phones tonight so you can.”

“I kind of like knowing you’re tracking me. I must have a stalker kink I wasn’t aware of.”

“Oh, yeah?” I took her lips in a kiss, sighing with bliss. She made me feel so good.

Later that night after a long meeting which had turned into drinks with a client, I walked into my house and smiled when the sound of Alice In Chains blasting from the kitchen hit my ears. Addy was singing—if you could call it that—along with the words. It reminded me of the first time she’d pulled up in the office parking lot with the stereo blasting.
