“You really think she’s capable of this though?” Grey asked.

“She hurt Blake before, when Trent was still with her,” Simon spoke up.

“How? Why are we just hearing about this now?” I demanded.

“I broke things off with her as soon as I found out. I didn’t think it mattered. Abby was out of our lives,” Trent explained.

“Of course it fucking matters. Blake is ours!” I fired back.

“Now, hold on a minute!” Simon threw back as he charged towards me.

“It’s true, Simon. We’re together, all of us. We love her,” Liam told him, in an attempt to calm the situation.

“All of you?” Simon asked as he paused and looked between us. “With my daughter?”

“I was pissed too, Dad, but she cares about them…all of them. It’s what she wants,” Trent spoke up.

“It’s what she needs, Simon,” Nan added with a sniffle. “After everything she’s been through, and everything she’s dealing with, she needs more than one man could ever give her. The boys can be everything she needs, and you know they’ll take care of her better than anyone else ever could. They’re good boys.”

“Can we just get back to Abby and what the fuck happened?” Grey pleaded.

“It had to be her. She had just enough time to round the corner, get in her car and circle back. Plus, she was fucking high as a kite,” I told them all.

“And she hates Blake. She was hurling threats and calling her names the whole way as I dragged her down the driveway,” Liam added.

“It had to be her. Who else could it have been?” I asked.

“Well, I raised charges against that fucker Terry this week. He was formally charged, but released on bail two days ago,” Simon told us.

“Why on earth would the authorities set scum like him free to roam the streets?” Nan demanded, still sounding a little drunk from the party.

“You think he’d travel all that way to hurt Blake?” Tom asked.

“It’s unlikely, but a possibility,” Simon mused. “There is another possibility too.”

“Fuck. When Blake comes out of this, we are never letting her out of our sight again,” Liam groaned.

“What are you thinking, Dad?” Trent pushed.

“I’ve been doing some digging around into the families of those bastards who kidnapped Blake, trying to find a way to disprove their alibis for those days they held her. I haven’t really gotten anywhere yet, but if they somehow found out what I’ve been doing…”

“They’d want to take out the problem,” I finished, and Simon nodded.

“If it was them, then Blake may not be safe here. They could try again and she’s an easy target right now, unconscious,” Grey pointed out, and everyone in the room jumped to their feet and ran for the door, even Trent who was hobbling.

We were all struggling to get through the doorway as fast as we could when suddenly the door was pulled open and a very startled looking doctor stood on the other side.

“Dr Hill, how is she?” Grey asked as we all backed up a little and allowed him in. He was an older man, probably in his late fifties, with thinning grey hair, wire glasses and dressed in blue scrubs. He looked between all of us as we surrounded him and I saw the slight step back he took. I didn’t blame him, we were an intimidating bunch, especially with all of the tension rolling from us.

“You’re all family?” he asked.

“I’m her father.” Simon stepped forward. “Please, just tell me how she is.”

“Right now Blake is stable, but critical. She has a brain bleed – a subdural hematoma,” he explained.

“What does that mean?” Liam asked at the same time as Grey spoke.

“Are you going to operate?”
