“Good,” he nodded.

“Did you see Grey this morning? He was asleep when I left for physio, then g-gone when I got back,” I asked, changing the subject.

“Yeah. He was headed out for his shift when I was getting breakfast. I tried to convince him to take the day off, but he refused.”

“Was he okay?” I asked worriedly.

“I think so. He was looking a little stiff when he moved, but he was good.”

“He should have taken at least today to r-rest.”

“He said work would take his mind off of everything. I’m sure he’ll be fine.”

“He’s going to pay off some guys to save Leah. Did he tell you guys. I d-don’t want him going alone.”

“He mentioned it this morning. We’re all going to talk with him tonight about it. Don’t worry, Blake. There’s no way we’re letting him go alone.”

“Thank God for that,” I sighed.

“It’ll be alright. We’ll keep him safe.”

“I know y-you will.”

“I’m going to change and hit the pool for some laps. You waiting for Fiona?” he asked.

“Yep. She should be here soon.”

“Okay short stack. Just yell if you need me,” he told me, before he turned and headed for his room.

I picked up my E-reader again but I was only a few sentences further into the shifter romance I was reading, when I heard Lewis opening the door and talking with a very excited sounding Fiona.

“…and I was like, hello? It’s a stop sign! I mean it’s called a stop sign. Clue’s kind of in the title,” she cried animatedly. By the time I had stood up and walked over towards the door, poor Lewis looked exhausted and was already backing off towards the exit again.

“Hi,” I greeted before Fiona could continue on with her chatter.

“Hey you!” She almost squealed. “Sorry I’m late. I had to run home to take my mom some groceries, then on the way here this jerk totally cut me off. I was just telling…” she paused and looked to where Lewis had been stood, but he had made a swift escape while she was distracted. “Oh, he’s gone. What was his name again? Leo? Lenny? Something like that. Anyway, it was totally crazy.” Finally she took a breath and I tried not to laugh at her exuberance. It was a lot, but I liked it. There was never a dull moment when Fiona was around with her non-stop chatter.

“Lewis, his name is Lewis,” I replied even though it was obvious she wasn’t really waiting for an answer.

“He’s cute. You should totally get on that,” she laughed as she followed me into the kitchen.

“I think I have enough on m-my plate for now, thanks,” I told her dryly. We both grabbed a bottle of water from the fridge and I offered her some of the baking Nan had done the day before.

Once we were loaded up with baked goods we settled on the sofa in the living room, the whole time Fiona was chattering about the guys she had dealt with at the gym lately. She always had hilarious tales of their attempts to flirt with her, or to ask her out, all of which she always turned down flat. She told me it was because she would never date anyone from the place she worked, but I had a feeling she had a secret crush on someone and was holding out hope for them, whoever they were. She had never given me any indication as to who this person was, but from small things she had let slip, I suspected it was one of the trainers who worked for Declan. I just needed to find out who exactly it was, and then maybe I could try my hand at a little match making for her. She deserved to be happy and I wanted that for her.

“So come on,” she said when there was a small lull in our conversation. “Spill. Tell me what you needed to talk about.”

I took a deep breath and looked everywhere but at her, suddenly feeling awkward about recounting what Declan and I had done the night before. But I needed to, because I needed someone to tell me what happened was alright, that it was a natural progression of any relationship, so I could stop stressing myself out about it and instead be excited about how amazing it had been.

“Okay,” I began tentatively. “So l-last night, Declan and I had a sort of date.”

“Sort of?”

“Well we couldn’t go out because of everything happening, so Declan set this thing up in the garden with blankets, candles, and these cute fairy lights. He even had champagne and a little p-picnic. Really romantic,” I explained and she nodded for me to go on. “We were cuddled up together and it just felt so…right. Everything just sort of…clicked. I was l-laid on him and he had his arms around me. The lights and the sound of the ocean behind us…it was so perfect, Fi,” I sighed dreamily as I recalled the spectacular moment.

“What happened?” she asked.

“Well, we kissed, which isn’t new, but I wanted more. I think I’m in l-love with him. In fact I think I’m falling for all of them, but Dec and I…we h-have this thing between us. It’s like he sees the real me, under all of the bullshit. He knows me better th-than anyone,” I went on. “Anyway, I told him what I wanted…that I needed more and he…he did it. He t-touched me,” I admitted as heat rushed over my face.
