They hustled off, and I stood there, shocked at how rude they were.

“Well that was uncomfortable.” Damon waggled our joined hands.

“I’d say.” More than a few people watched us dancing.

Was it really that strange to see a blind guy dancing? A flame of anger ignited in my chest as we moved to the beat. I kinda wanted to flip them off.

Crunch.

“Looks like someone found my glasses.” Damon laughed and pulled me close. “You okay? That was your friend, right? From the coffee shop.”

“Friend, that’s funny. But yeah.”

A warm hand curled around my waist. His palm rested on my abdomen as he started swaying to the music again. “Screw ’em.” He kissed my neck, and I closed my eyes as I rested my head back.

Didn’t matter what anyone thought, I loved Damon. Wanted to be with him. Maybe tonight I’d finally tell him I loved him.

Chapter Forty-Eight

Damon

“Well, thatwasinteresting.”I held Lizzie’s hand as I tapped my way down the sidewalk. “College party blind and only a few spills and nicks to show for it.”

“You did great. You really can dance.”

“Was saving it for Drey’s party, but the secret’s out.” I stood straighter. It really had gone better than I’d thought it would. “How far is it to your car?”

“Sounds like Carl had a tough time finding parking. And I didn’t want him coming by to pick us up.”

“That wouldn’t have screamed rich kid at all.” I laughed. “It’s nice out, though. Walking is good. Stars out?”

“Yep. Bright, too. It’s dark on this block. Oh, couple lights out, that’s why.”

Okay, that wasn’t good. “We’re a ways from the party house, right? Call Carl. Let’s find a streetlight that’s on and we’ll wait by it.” Hairs on the back of my neck prickled. So not a good idea sauntering down the street. “What street are we on, anyway?”

“No idea.” I heard clicking. “94894 West Hazel.”

Shit. Jeff would have my ass right now if he knew hownotaware of my surroundings I’d been this entire evening. West Hazel?Shit.

“Let’s go back to the house. How far are we?” I barely heard any music, so it had to be a ways.

“What’s wrong?” Lizzie’s voice cracked, and that was never good.

“Nothing. Like you said. Not a great part of town. Dark streets. Let’s get back. Now.”

“Shit,” Lizzie gasped.

“Surprised to see you in this neck of the woods, D-man.”

A hand to my back pushed me away from Lizzie. She screamed. “Whoa.” I put my hand up and tapped around me to try to find out if I was still on the sidewalk. Felt like gravel beneath my shoes. A yard maybe. “What’s going on?”

“Snooping around for—wait.” I heard crunching nearby. “You really can’t see.”

The air in front of my face shifted slightly. He was probably waving his hand in front of my face. More shuffling behind him and muffled grunts. “Lizzie?”

Another grunt.

“Motherfucker, let her go,” I yelled.
