“Damon. Are you—”

“As I was saying at the coffee shop before we were so rudely interrupted, I want you, LizBelle.Youare my home.”

“Damon,” she whispered. “I didn’t mean to put pressure on you. I—”

“I’d decided the minute Walker and I had our discussion.” My fingers met the doorframe to my room. “And then those weeks without any sign of Rain or Scott, I thought about it. Dreamed about it. Was going to start fighting douchebag for you, but then, here you are.”

“I’ddecided I was going to fight you for you.”

“Me, huh?” I stepped into my bedroom. “Here we are. How’s it look?”

“Like a guy’s room.” She slid down the front of me, and I groaned. I couldn’t wait to own everything about her. “Plain walls. Clothes on the floor—oh—no clothes on the floor.”

“Tripping hazard.” I cupped her face, so happy to be feeling it again. The smooth skin. The high cheekbones. “That’s a plus. I’ll be neat and tidy.”

She laughed. Lizzie’s laugh was once again filling my life. God I’d missed it.

“I messed up, LizBelle. I’m sorry.”

She smoothed her hand down my chest and let out a long sigh. “I let you do it. I should have fought you harder.”

“Wouldn’t have mattered. I was set.”

“Still. I agreed way too fast.” She kissed my neck. “I understand why you did it, though.”

I combed back her silky hair. “I’ll do anything to keep you safe. To never have you see anything terrible again. You’ve seen enough already.”

“I’ll agree to that second part. But the doing anything to keep me safe. There’s no moreIif there’s a ring involved. It becomes we. For everything. We’lldo anything to keepussafe. You ready for that?”

“I am.”

“Be sure, Damon. Because you can’t walk out on me again. Not once there are rings involved. Really shiny and expensive rings.”

“What about candy rings? What about—”

She silenced me with her mouth. And I was good with that.

Chapter Sixty-One

Lizzie

Ifinallyknewwhatcoming home felt like. Exactly as he’d said about me, Damon was my home.

“Can I finally say it?” I bit his neck, and he moaned.

“Not before me.” He leaned back. “I love you, LizBelle.”

“I love you, Damon.”

His hands slid down my back, then up, and tangled in my hair. He drew in a deep breath. “Missed that.” He kissed me behind my ear.

“What?”

“You smell like candy. How many suckers did you eat on your way here?”

“I made Carl drive around for a while, thinking this through. So, a few.”

“Five?” He licked my neck as his hands slid up my shirt. “Arms up.”
