“What happened to her?” I asked.

“She witnessed some pretty horrific things. Few years back,” Angelina said, her hand resting on my shoulder. “Ask her about it.”

“I tried once.”

“Keep trying,” she said. “You good here alone with her?”

“As long as I don’t need to move I am.”

“That’s all she needs.” Hunter smacked my shoulder. “See you tomorrow.”

“Funny,” I said.

“Oh shit. I—”

“Kidding. Get out of here already.” I scooted closer to Lizzie. “I got you, girl. I’m fixing to go swimming with you in that ocean you described to me before. And in my fantasy, there are no night terrors. No blindness. Just me and you in the water.”

I dragged the rag along her arm, trailing my free hand to make sure it wasn’t too wet.

“And we’re going to swim out deep so I can take that little number of yours off and see you blush. I know you blush, don’t you, when I touch you?” I drew in a deep breath. “That’s what I like about you. So sweet. There isn’t much of that in my life, girl. At least before you.”

I’d probably ruin it.

She took a deep breath and let it out slowly. I smelled the sweetness; she must be looking in my direction. Patting around to her revealed only about a foot of distance. Keeping my hands on the bed, I worked my way to the foot of it, then the other side. Smoothing my hands along the cover, it felt like I had about five feet of open bed.

I crawled up and about groaned at how soft it was. And it formed to my body as I sagged against it.

Exactly what I’d always wanted. And at least it didn’t disturb her, since nothing else moved on these types of beds.

I made it to her side and nestled in behind her, resting my head on her pillow so my nose was buried in her hair. Loved that scent. It was like rain and sun mixed together. She was sweet all around, wasn’t she?

If I was smart, I’d bolt. I wasn’t even in the same stratosphere as “sweet,” and I’d wreck her. Totally wreck her.

Chapter Eighteen

Lizzie

Anotherwonderfulnightofsleep. I rolled onto my back, flopping my arms out to the side. My elbow rammed into something, and that something grunted!

“Omigosh!” I scooted to the headboard as Damon groaned, scrubbing his face.

“Well, that’s one way to wake up. Thinking maybe another hard blow to the head will shake my eyes back into working?”

I covered my face with my hands. How’d he get in bed with me? He’s here, in my bed. I scrambled for the covers to hide my nearly naked body.

Okay, not even close to naked considering I had on PJ shorts and a tank top, but still! “Damon!”

He rolled over, reaching for me, and I batted his hand away. “What’s the matter?” He sat up, his eyes wide. “What’s wrong?”

“You’re in my bed!”

“This bed rocks, by the way. I’m just sayin’.” He yawned. “What time is it?”

He did not just ask me that like it was an ordinary morning. I’d gone to bedalonelast night. Tucked him in on the couch, had a little snack, then came herealone! Wait, what was on his face?

“What happened to you?” I asked, reaching for the swollen, red splotch on his cheek. Dang it, his eye was black and blue.

“Had a little face-plant trying to get to your room. Mental note, from now on I get a tour of every place you bring me into. I didn’t know how to find you last night. And you were screaming.”
