Her breath hitched.

“This wasnothow I’d planned to have you at my house the first time.”

“Not into threesomes,” she said.

“Was that asexjoke coming from my LizBelle?” I curled my fingers around the nape of her neck. “I told you, I don’t share.”

She grunted. But at least she wasn’t pulling away. Hell, she’d even thrown a joke in there.

“Now, tell me why you were stopping by. Something to celebrate?”

“It’s nothing.”

“Hey. You got to shoot straight with me, girl. I can’t see your face.”

“What do you mean, dance lesson?”

“I give you some, you give me some. That’s how it works, right?” I teased her.

“Jerk.”

“Ohhh, bring it, LizBelle.” I pulled her close and guided her face to my chest. “Dance lesson. That’s all it was. In my area, my space, so I could do it without bumping into anything.”

She sniffled. “I stepped on a crack.”

“A crack? Holy shit, Lizzie. That’s huge! Where? That’s awesome!”Son of a bitchand that douche Doug got to hear about it first! “I could kick myself that Doug got to hear the news before me!”

“He didn’t get it,” she said into my shirt. “Just sat there.” Her tiny fist pounded my chest. “I wanted… I ran to you. To your place, I was so excited.”

“And found Roberta with her arms around me.”

“Dancing. You were dancing with someone…not me.” She bonked her head against my chest, and I heard her sniffling. “Not me.”

“Shhh, baby. Shhh.” I combed her hair and started to sway. “To practice. It was a lesson. And you didn’t see Andrew in there, did you? He was there. Grading me. To graduate me from mobility training.”

“You’re a good dancer. Probably better than me!” she said.

“Pretty good for a blind guy, right?”

“Why didn’t you tell me? You said you couldn’t come with me today, then I saw you with her. I—”

“I wasn’t telling you because I wanted to surprise you.” I kissed the top of her head. “Drey’s having a party. At my house, even, so I can function there comfortably without Mr. Magic. I wanted to surprise you with how good I was getting around my space. I don’t even need Mr. Magic there anymore.”

“Really?”

“I can cook a meal, well, for the most part. And I was practicing.”

“Party, huh?”

“Celebrating Drey and Sarah, since I missed the wedding. Celebrating I’m alive and not brain-dead. Celebrating graduating from mobility training. Gang-free life. Lots to celebrate.”

I felt her move within my grasp, and then a wave of chocolate swarmed me. She must be facing me. Damn if I didn’t want to kiss her silly so I could get a good long taste of it. “Graduating, huh? Already?”

“Yep. I mean, I’m not perfect. There’s still more training, but this round, hell yeah. I nailed it today. Well, except when I chased after you. That didn’t go so well. But he still passed me.”

“Should have told me.”

“Shouldn’t have come over by surprise.” I laughed.
