CHAPTER1

Ally

“Ithink we should fuck.”

Gabe’s blue eyes glimmered with amusement as he turned me in a slow circle, the music we were dancing to soft and romantic. “Is that a fact?” Not so much as a tremor in the hand that held mine betrayed any sort of surprise. Literallynothingfazed this man. It annoyed the fuck out of me.

“Yeah. I mean, unless of course you don’t want to…” I was even more annoyed at the uncertain note in my tone.

He pulled a little away from me, just enough to make a big show of taking in my deep purple bridesmaid’s dress. It was an A-line strapless number that made my boobs and waist look amazing. “Of course, I want to. I’ve got a pulse, haven’t I?”

I blew out a breath of relief, then scowled in yet even more annoyance. I’d spent months avoiding him. Not talking to him. Snapping at him. Anything to get him out of my head. But the fact was he was well and truly under my skin, and I’d finally realized that the best way to remove him from there was to just fuck him and be done with it. That way the wondering, the dreaming, the obsessing would all be over. I’d know firsthand exactly how it felt and I’d finally be able to move on and stop imagining all the things I wanted him to do to me. “Great. So tonight then.”

He quirked up a brow, pulling me close again as we swayed to the music. Why did he have to smell so fucking good? Aftershave, mixed with something woodsy and fresh.Andwhy did he have to look so good in that suit? Seriously unfair. A charcoal gray that made his eyes look amazing, with a tie that matched the purple of my own dress, his dark brown hair brushed back. When I’d walked up the garden aisle, he’d been at the top, standing next to hisbest friend Matt as his best man. His eyes had collided with mine and I’d felt my core clench. I figured getting turned on while walking up the aisle wasnota good look, so I’d jerked my gaze away, barely looking at him for the rest of the ceremony. I’d made so many promises to myself today just like I had every day since I’d met him, but they all flew out the window the moment he pulled me into his arms to dance.

“Tonight? You move fast.”

“Well, what’s the point in waiting?”

“True.”

“Great. So, the ground rules…”

“Ground rules?” he prompted, when I didn’t continue.

I caught my lip between my teeth, letting it go when his eyes dropped to the movement. Didn’t want to throw myself at him too hard in the middle of the dance floor. “It’s a one and done, okay? I’m not looking for a relationship. I just want to scratch an itch.”

“How romantic of you.”

“Shut up.”

“Sorry. Please, continue.”

“Okay.”Fuck, where was I?

“You have an itch that needs scratching and you want me to help you with it.”

“Jeez, you don’t have to make it sound like I’ve got some sort of disease!”

He chuckled, the sound reverberating through me, causing me to shiver. “I get it, Allegra.”

Man, I loved the sound of my name on his lips like that. And because I loved it, of course I had to say, “It’s Ally, as you very well know.”

“But Allegra is so pretty.”

I rolled my eyes.

“Okay, so we’ve established that it’s a one-night stand. What else?”

“No kissing.”

“What? Fuck that. I’ve been wanting to kiss you for months. There’s no way I’m gonna fuck you andnotkiss you.”

His words did all sorts of things to my insides. “Fine. I guess we can kiss, if you really want to.”

“I promise you’ll like it.”

“Fine, whatever.” There was that glimmer of amusement in his eyes again, like he saw straight through me. It was just another reason to steer clear of this man, but I just couldn’t seem to help myself. “Matt and Zara plan to head to the hotel at midnight, so once we’ve cleaned up a bit, I’ll come to your place.”
