After she canceled the job offer, he couldn’t help but follow her closely the next day. It seemed he wasn’t discreet enough, as he saw her look around after sensing that she was being followed. Before then, he had discussed with Jude, another friend of his, to put up a job vacancy in his company while hoping that Jane caught a hang of it and rushed over there on time. He thanked the ice cream seller in his heart after he directed Jane to the company.

In order not to make it look suspicious to the smart girl, they had to put up a job vacancy for different positions to attract a lot of people while, in reality, they only needed her. Jude decided to interview the girl himself to see what was so special about her that had his mighty friend look for a job for her twice in a row, and he was impressed. Even if she hadn’t impressed him, he would still offer her the job as that was the deal, but she surpassed his expectations.

“Hello,” Jude said after picking up Jasper’s phone.

“Hello, how did it go?” Jasper asked.

“There’s something you aren’t telling us, Jas. What’s up with her?”

“Could you please stop answering questions with questions? You know I hate that a lot,” Jasper said tiredly, as he groaned.

“Okay,” Jude replied, with a knowing smile on his lips.

“So, what’s the outcome?” Jasper asked again.

“It went well. She was offered the job and will start next Monday,” replied Jude.

“Yes!” Jasper exclaimed, tightening his fist.

“Hmmm…interesting,” Jude commented on his friend’s attitude.

“She surprised me, though. That girl is smart,” Jude complimented, and Jasper nodded in agreement.

“I know, right.”

“Hope you won’t miss out on this week’s vacation. Jane is hosting us this time.”

"I won't," Jasper replied before abruptly ending the call. That was because he saw Jane coming out of the company's gate. Following her taxi, he stopped at her street and watched her stand at the entrance of the house for a bit, lost in thought. Not long after, she took on the countenance of a sad person, making him giggle. "What is she up to now?" he thought.

Watching her go inside, he decided to stay back for a while before going back, only to get startled when he noticed another girl, whom he recognized as a friend of Jane's, poking her head out as if looking for any possible sign of danger outside. At some point, he felt his heart skip a beat when she looked straight at him as if she could see him. He immediately found his way out after she receded. He didn't know why, but that girl looked like trouble to him, and he could not afford to risk it.

At the vacation home, which belonged to Jane Stanford, six friends were living their best lives as they took a break from their tight schedules and work.

"Do you mind telling us about her?" Jude asked again, refusing to give up on the question.

"Yes, please, because it is very unlikely for a man like you to request such information for a lady from the middle class," Melissa supported. The rest, who had gotten the gossip beforehand, looked at their friend for his response, but the man just kept quiet, sipping his wine like he wasn't the one being spoken to.

"I don't think this is the right time to be quiet, bro. For you to have sought the help of Melissa and Jude while acting weird in-between, there's something we need to know," Clifford said, referring to Jasper's weird behavior of wanting to talk to the girl himself in Melissa's company and calling Jude to be sure that he offered her a job while waiting outside his company as if to monitor the girl.

"Are you in love with her?" Jane asked, wriggling her brows to annoy Jasper, but the guy only scoffed and looked away.

"She bears the same name as you," Darlington announced as if it wasn't a known fact, and his friends looked at him as if he had lost his mind.

"What? I was only stating the fact," he pointed out, and they all focused their attention on Jasper once again.

"Remember the girl I defiled back then?" Jasper asked.

"You defiled a lot of girls, bro. Just be specific," Melissa said with a scoff.

"The last girl I slept with," he said, and they all gave their shocked expressions in different forms.

"Not slept with, you raped her!" Jane corrected.

"I know," Jasper replied.

"No way!" Jude replied.

"She's the one," Jasper replied coldly as he continued with his wine, ignoring his friends' shocked expressions.
