“I think I need to call the police,” Natasha said, but Jane stopped her.

“That won’t be necessary. It’s not as if I got hurt ever since they started following me, and besides, calling the police would only result in an investigation, which can be dangerous for my family and me.”

“I have good news.” Jane suddenly shrieked, making Natasha cover her ears before they got damaged from the sudden scream.

“Okay, what?”

“I was offered a job in the marketing department at Jude Austin’s Corporation.” She said loudly, and Natasha’s eyes widened.

“That’s a lie.”

“Even I myself can’t believe it,” Jane said happily, and Natasha screamed in excitement before hugging her friend as if her life depended on it.

Looking at the two excited friends, one would think that Natasha was the one who got the job, and Jane was just rejoicing with her.

“I need to call my parents to inform them about this piece of good news after which we head to get some ice cream.” Jane said, and Natasha gave an ‘Of course’ look and nod. After all, it’s not every day she got to taste ice cream with such joy in her.

It seems her parents were expecting her call as they didn’t even wait for their phone to ring more than once before picking it up.

“Mum, Dad, guess what?” She said immediately they picked up the call, and Natasha worried that her friend was going to faint from too much joy given the way she was breathing.

“You got a job?” Her Dad asked, and she nodded with everything in her.

‘Okay, at this point, I worry that your head will fall off.’ Natasha thought.

“Not just any job, Dad.”

“Let me guess, you got a job in one of the big companies?” Her mum asked, and she nodded again.

After telling her mum how she got the job and they celebrated her success, they offered to come over, but she refused. Instead, she told them that she would come over with Natasha, and the girl didn’t mind.

Going to her favorite ice cream spot, she apologized to Natasha for not discussing it with her before her parents’ call.

“There’s no need to apologize. Who doesn’t like where free food is being served?” Natasha said with a shrug, and Jane smiled at that.

She thanked the ice cream seller and promised to always buy her ice cream there, making the guy smile from ear to ear.

Seeing him as a friend, both girls invited him to join them, which he did, and only left occasionally when he needed to attend to his customers.

They spent the rest of the week celebrating in Jane’s hometown with her parents.

Chapter 10:Why Do This?

Seated in his office, the head guard came in to report to him. This was the same man who dropped Jane off years ago.

“And how is she?” Jasper asked.

“She’s okay, sir. She was among the reporters a few hours ago.” The man reported, causing Jasper to frown.

“Is she a reporter? I wasn’t aware of that fact,” Jasper said, feeling extreme fear that he had ignored her and wondering when she became a reporter.

“No, sir. It seems she was just curious as to what was going on.”

“Is that so?” Jasper asked, with a smile on his face as he realized that she was the one who had sent him deadly glares.

“I have a job for you,” he offered, and the big guy nodded, paying rapt attention to what his boss had to say. That was how they broke into Natasha and Jane’s house in the middle of the night to steal her C.V.

Jasper spoke with a friend of his about giving Jane a job in her company, which she agreed to, only for Jane to turn it down with some valid reasons. He had to make a deal with Melissa to receive the next call from Jane. Jasper could feel his heart thrum when he heard her voice again after a long time. He was used to admiring her from afar, but this feeling was different, and he wanted more of it. When she rejected the job, it took a whole lot not to beg her to accept it as it would make it more suspicious.
