“Lexi?”
Lexi clenched her fists together, and her sisters let go. She then released the pain into the ether, breathing in and out deeply as she cupped her friend’s cheek.
“Hi,” Lexi said, grinning.
“What happened?” Harper groaned.
The sisters all helped clean Harper up. Her pride had returned and showed in her case of bashfulness about the fact that she was naked. But Taryn was adamant about cleansing the blood, as she knew Harper would be too weak to bathe on her own for a few days.
“You have to give the healing time,” Lexi said smugly. “It’s just us here.”
Harper gave in reluctantly, and they dressed her once the blood and dirt were gone. Madison brought in herbal tea that would help her relax and rest for the remainder of the night.
“I mean it, Lexi. I want to know what happened.”
Lexi was exhausted, which often happened after using a conjuring and healing spell. Plus, she had done the location spell. She was spent.
“We can talk in the morning. We both need to rest.”
Lexi encouraged her friend to drink the tea while everyone else left. They were able to talk softly for a short time, with Lexi laying next to her friend and stroking her hair.
She had never seen her friend and new enforcer that vulnerable. She dozed off, knowing that they needed to flush out whoever was responsible for the kidnapping the next time the sun rose into the sky.

XANDER
Xander left Lexi and Harper alone for a few days while her enforcer healed from her wounds. He was finding that his feelings for Lexi were only growing stronger, even when he wasn’t interacting with her. They spoke over dinner and a few times during the day when Xander inquired about Harper, but otherwise, they were apart. His heart ached, but his admiration for Lexi and the love she had for her friend made him fall even deeper.
Harper had healed miraculously. Really only needing a few days after being rescued from the cave to regain her energy. Her jaw, which had likely been broken when Xander found her, reset itself during the healing ceremony. The bruises nearly completely vanished by the time Xander asked Lexi to go out on the town with him.
She had wrinkled her nose, her hair was tied into a loose ponytail, and she wore a long, floral summer dress. Her green eyes stood out as always like jewels in the snow while she considered his request.
“What about Maureen?” she mused.
They were standing in the hallway outside their bedroom suite, which had briefly become Harper’s recovery room while he’d slept in the guest area. He had missed being near her body in bed, catching her scent in the middle of the night, enchanting him into a calm sleep.
He took in her concern, trying not to be distracted by her effortless beauty.
“I want to keep an eye on her. Where I’m taking you, she won’t make a move. Harper will come along too. It will be fun, I promise.”
Xander took Lexi’s hands, and she flicked a look at him after gazing out the window with consideration. She smiled sweetly, and that healed every wound his heart had ever ached with.
“You promise?” she murmured, moving in close to his chest.
Her voice was like a songbird’s, sensual, enticing, and hypnotic. He traced his hands down her hips, and her breath hitched in her throat for one glorious moment when he yanked her against him.
Xander leaned down to her exposed nape, planting the lightest kiss on her tasty skin. She shivered. He sensed her heat rising in her core.
Her skin buzzed as he trailed his mouth off her shoulder, whispering in his deep, throaty rasp.
“I promise you, my darling, it will be one of the most thrilling nights of your life.”
Xander felt her sharp intake of breath as her body arched naturally against him, then they heard a staff member coming down the hall. They parted but continued to hold hands, with Lexi letting out a cute chuckle as her skin flushed.
“God, you’re going to get me in so much trouble, My Dear King ….”
Xander felt himself getting hard, and it was then that he realized how much he had truly missed her. But he wanted to wait, to draw out the seduction for the evening and indulge her in every single way she deserved.
