“Get yourself ready by seven,” he said, kissing her forehead gently. “I’m taking you into the city.”

It was as if the both of them had forgotten entirely about the past few tumultuous days. That was what Xander hoped for. She had spent her time with Harper, healing her both literally and metaphorically. She’d spent time feeding, entertaining, and even sleeping with her in the same bed. She deserved some downtime and, most of all, an endless amount of pleasure.

They went into the city portion of Odstindale with Maureen and Harper in tow. Maureen drove with Harper by her side while the two love birds sat in the back. Lexi wore a lavender dress with a deliciously plunging neckline, the skirt portion ending just below her knees. Xander was, of course, also dressed to the nines, wearing a charcoal and aquamarine suit with his hair neatly coiffed.

Lexi was his main focus, of course, but he had meant it when he said he wanted to keep an eye on Maureen. Harper was back to full form, sitting next to the person they all believed was responsible for her kidnapping.

Though, Harper couldn’t remember a thing about what had happened other than the rogue who had tied her up and threatened her in the cave. She was fine with playing things cool for the time being while they waited and observed the king’s enforcer and her suspicious behavior.

They drove into the heart of the city with lights as big and bright as the moon. A play was premiering at the local theater, and of course, the king had been invited to attend with his new potential queen. When they showed up, cameras flashed incessantly, with Xander proudly taking Lexi on his arm along the red carpet.

Maureen and Harper were ever-present, walking beyond them as the cameras flashed and then leading them to their private box seats. The theater was large and elegant, with the king having his own permanent box at the center of the venue with seats near the door for the enforcers.

Xander felt Lexi’s adrenaline pumping through the touch of their skin. When they sat in the box seats, he touched her leg and asked if she was all right.

“Oh, I’m more than all right.” She beamed. “This is incredible, Xander. I’ve never … I’ve never felt this way before. I’ve never been so well taken care of.”

Xander’s felt as though his heart could burst in his chest, and his wolf howled. Her eyes glistened under the venue lights, bright and curious like those of a child. He was glad he was igniting those sensations inside her, enjoying the way her chest rose and fell, her bosom pressed out by a body-hugging corset.

The house lights fell, and he didn’t get a chance to respond. They held hands, or each let the other’s hand rest on their leg, always encircling, always touching, through the entirety of the play.

All Xander could think about was her flavor. Her divine, succulent essence.

The play was a beautiful interpretation of an old folk tale, modernized for younger audiences. It spoke about his ancestors and how the kingdom was formed in a way that was both stimulating and comedic.

As much as he could appreciate artistic expression, Xander merely wanted to get Lexi home and show her that she was the only piece of art on his mind.

Maureen had behaved normally as far as Xander could observe. They were driven home, their hands like tentacles all over each other in the back seat, and he instructed the enforcers to retire for the night.

While he did that, Lexi waited at the secret entrance in their private kitchen down to the botanical garden. She held a glass of wine while a single flicker of candlelight washed over her fetching expression.

Xander could see the lust in her eyes, making her look wild.

“I want to see you shift.”

Xander walked to her nonchalantly, pouring his own glass of wine and drinking it without reply. She watched him, knowing he was teasing her by making her wait. Her lip-biting was positively erotic to him.

“Are you sure about that?” he said, placing the goblet down. “After all, I have to be naked to do it.”

Lexi let out a sharp breath, then used her free hand to grip his.

“That’s what I was counting on,” she breathed.

She led him along the secret hallway, down the stairs, and into the botanical gardens. They sprinted through the sunflower and sage portion of the grounds and emerged in a clearing that led to a small creek in the back landscape.

The night was warm and dewy. The only light came from the flickering fluorescents of the palace chandeliers shining through the windows. She stopped pulling him when they got to the water, standing there expectantly with her arms crossed, sipping at the reminder of the wine in her goblet.

Lexi licked her lips, motioning at him with her chin.

“Well? What are you waiting for?”

Xander cleared his throat. Then, with an enticing smirk, he began to undress. The way she watched him was enough to fill him with desire, so when he removed his dress pants, his hard cock popped out.

She looked ravenous when she gazed at it, still swirling the goblet in her hand.

Xander shifted as easily and as quickly as learning to jump rope. The look of amazement in her eyes was intimate and arousing.

They ran about in the dark, with Lexi having removed her heels and tossed away the wineglass. Eventually, Xander fell on his back next to the creek and, with Lexi watching closely, shifted back into his human form.
