That got their attention. Colton seemed to know of a female that said they were telling the truth.

“One more thing, before I take you upstairs. The other rouges going after us? Are they all motivated for similar reasons?”

Another shared look before the big one with the spitting issue glared at me.

“Yes. Almost none of the rogues there are by choices. Those rings have been killing off any packs that go up against them and sell our females to packs that align with them. There is money to be had, but it’s mostly life. You don’t want to die? You do what they tell you.”

I nodded and headed out, giving them my back.

Giving them the chance to cross me now.

“I demand allegiance once you see her,” I said. And walked out.

I was not my father.

I was a better alpha.

I was going to get vengeance for my mate and for all the packs out there.

CHAPTER7

Kiara

Deja vu.

That was the only way to explain this. I had been here before.

Comfy bed. Waking to unfamiliar smells.

This time though, I could sit up. I could stand the light streaming from a lamp. This was the room I’d been kidnapped from. And this was the room that held the scent of my mate. He’d come for me.

I breathed in the air and let his scent calm me. Maybe this was the sad attempt of trying to make sure my brain understood this was all different. Breathe in and out. I clasped my hands over my stomach, and with every breath I watched as my hands rose and fell. This was living. Every breath, every rise and fall of my chest, the feel of my wolf sleeping peacefully.

I caught myself smiling. He’d come for me just like he said. This was not like last time. Everything was different. I wasn’t a child this time, and I wasn’t broken.

I flexed my toes and stretched my legs. I ran my hands over the sheets and allowed myself to feel safe. There were no strange noises. The walls were thick, and the only thing I could catch was the sound of the sink running. The door opened, and he walked out.

“Mate, you’re awake.”

Instinct made me smile.

“I am.” He had no idea just how awake I was. Heat swirled alive within me at the sight of him. My mate. My rescuer. He was home.

He took a few more steps, and I found myself trying to understand everything I felt right now. It was just him. I was awake and my entire body was alive with new and strange sensations. I couldn’t figure out what it was. I rubbed my hand against my chest and struggled to breathe for a few seconds.

“I think they did something to me?”

I rubbed at my chest again, and his eyes followed the motion.

He came closer and reached for me.

“No. That’s the pack. I can feel what you feel right now. You didn’t get a chance to feel our pack truly when they took you. The connection is always there, but the further away, the weaker the pull. You’ll get used to it soon enough. It means you’re home and our wolves need this connection. Your wolf will calm soon enough.”

When I didn’t speak, he pulled me onto his lap and sniffed at my neck, licking at my skin. I giggled at the tickle.

“Stop,” I said and playfully pushed at his chest.

My wolf woke to his scent and touch. Tingles of need charged along every nerve ending in my body. I could want him freely now that we were here. Safe.
