Sarah, where is she?

I ran as quickly as I could in human form, tempted to shift. Right now though I needed to keep my wits about me. Instinct would help soon enough, but we needed all the facts, and turning me over to my wolf wasn’t the right choice. Not that he agreed.

She just wasn’t here when I got here.

I practically screamed at the pack, but it wasn’t necessary. Two of my guards met me as I got closer to the center of our lands near the pack house, and closer to the house that I thought was safe to keep Cripple Creek away from my mate.

“Where is she?” I yelled.

We kept running until Sarah stopped me in my tracks.

“Her scent, it… She went down there.”

A guard ran up to me.

“This note, one of the wolves gave it to me just now. But by now she’s been missing for an hour.”

I snarled.

“I can feel her. She’s alive. She would know she can’t get away from me. Why would she want to?”

Sarah was pacing, and I almost felt bad—almost. I was too angry though. Too worried. Too everything.

“How is it she got past all of you?”

The note was thrust at me.

“She was determined. The older female, she said that she was determined to find her old pack.”

Those words hit like a tsunami.

“She what?”

The guard finally got me to take the note.

“I thought it was strange that she wanted to visit with them. She was adamant that as the Luna she could do as she wanted. I can’t override her, and you… well it wasn’t enough to stop the council meeting.”

Fuck.

I followed at Sarah’s annoying pacing back and forth and around. My hair hurt with every tug. When I’d spoken of regret, I’d said it and meant it. And my mate would be front and center of all my indiscretions.

“Can we beat her down there?”

Sarah stopped pacing, and I noticed the tears down her face.

“She took a bike. Or well, the wolf that’s taking her there took one of the motorcycles.”

“Fine. Then we take something faster.”
