But then my memories darkened, and I reached the stairwell. The pain. She’d hated me. I’d been a threat to her. I didn’t understand. She’d forced my father to go to that party. The one at the Black Creek lands. I spun around.

“Rife, I remember. It was the Luna. She’d made us all leave—"

Something grabbed me from behind, and I screamed.

CHAPTER20

Devon

“Fuck, Kiara? Where are you?”

That must be the voice of the male that took my mate, and he didn’t seem to still fucking have her. Rift or Rafe. I didn’t fucking care. He was going to pay.

“Kiara?”

I heard him call her name again, and then she called for me. Finally.

Devon, help me.

I took off at a run. I’d left the car at the side of the road where I could recall this hellhole had been years ago. I couldn’t say things stayed the same here. Time had erased them from civilization. These were my regrets, but only slightly.

I caught her scent near where the bike was left behind and followed it like she’d left me a bread crumb.

I’m coming.

He was screaming now, her name on his lips again. I would murder him when I caught up. I roared out into the night, snarling as I made out the sounds of footsteps and the soft thud of fighting.

Where was he? A moment ago, it had sounded like he was outside the house.

Devon, there’s too many.

Too many? My own pack caught up to me as we charged across the field.

She says there are too many? Didn’t you say there was only one that brought her?

None of them said a damn thing as we watched several shadows run from one side of the field into the house.

What in the hell?

You go around back.

I nodded to the two of my pack and watched as they did as I requested. They always would. I was the alpha and I should have always made the best decisions, but when I was younger? There was a reason my father had mistrust in me. There was a reason he’d held out on handing the pack over to me and this place? It was haunted by my transgressions.

We crept up to the porch and the male to my left caught my eye as we both grabbed the railing and jumped it soundlessly.

Kiara? How many?

I could feel her panic bleeding through me, but I forced myself to take one step at a time. To be calm and be what she needed.

At least four. I can’t find Rife.

Rife? Who the fuck. Shit. I hadn’t taken time to know who the Cripple Creek wolves were and my mate had? Why is it, that even now, I was still making mistakes?

Okay. Where are you?

We could make out the scuffle of feet against the floors. Listening quietly, I knew they were all on the first floor.

The pack moved together. I pressed myself against the wall listening once more, and when I was certain we had the upper hand, all three of us moved to block the exists. As I eclipsed the moon, I saw her and two men holding her.
