“Do what?”

“How do you know I was thinking something and grinning?”

“The same way you do when I am, I guess, Mr. Starks.”Touché Ms. Amelia.“It’s just a feeling, I don’t know.”

“I was just thinking, it has been exactly a week now, since we met.” I smile as I look at Gerry tapping his foot. “And I do believe we’ve spoken every day.”

I can hear breathing in the phone. “I know.” She’s smiling. Like she said, I can feel it. “Believe me I’ve not thought of much else since.”Damn.

“Me either,” I whisper. “I’ve got to go sweet Amelia. Gerry is tapping his foot at me.” I laugh as she does.

“What color is he today?” I grin, she’s beautiful.

“Tuscan gold or something near that. Oh with a fedora that matches.” We both laugh. “Quite frankly, I can’t believe they make suits in that particular shade.”

“Like you said, he’s your color wheel.” She sounds like she’s purring.

“Yes, I did.”I’d like to hear her purr differently.

“Well, you go Mr. Starks and have a good weekend.” Yet she doesn’t hang up.

“You keep yourself safe, sweet Amelia.” I hope she reads all of my meaning into that statement. I won’t be around this weekend.

“I will … until we speak again.” I grin as I hear her disconnect her call.

Damn.“Until then,” I whisper into the dead phone.

Gerry sees my phone is no longer flashing. I watch him make his way into my office. He’s hard to miss in that color. “Well, what did your lioness say about sailing?”

“I didn’t tell her what I was planning.” I grin, leaning back. “Element of surprise!”

“Romance is on the horizon.” He snaps his hand at me as he grins. I’m not going to deny it. Nor admit it tomyself.

“Friends, remember? We leave Wednesday and return Sunday.” I look at him. “All of us. What you think about leaving Wednesday morning, sailing to the Bahamas, beaching some?”

“Marcus will be ecstatic.”

“Good.” I grin. “You two coming to the club later? I’ve got business matters to attend to.”

“Please honey, we’re going to have our bodies waxed.” I laugh watching him rub over his face. “This beauty isn’t god given love. Hell no, it takes money and pain.”

“Did you get the captain on standby?”

“Don’t I do everything you tell me?” He rolls his eyes as we both stand. I nod in agreement as we leave.

AMELIA

“Shit,” I whine as I drop my damn casserole dish. I grasp the burn and bend at my waist squeezing my hand between my thighs. I haven’t quite figured out why, that move certainly doesn’t ease the pain. I guess makes it more bearable.

I look at my well-worn oven mitt. “It’s time for new ones.” At least I didn’t spill the orange marmalade breakfast bake. I walk over to the sink and run cold water over my hand. My grandmother always used fresh aloe.

I slip on plastic gloves, and work my homemade apple sage sausage mixture into patties. I should have made these for Quinton. I grin, dreaming about him; I hope I’m on his mind.

I close my eyes when I hear Eric walk into the kitchen. He wraps his arms around my waist and kisses me on the neck. “Good morning!”

“Morning.” I smile, moving out of his grasp to my skillet. It’s hot and ready for the sausage.

“What are you cooking this morning?” He grabs a soda and pops it open. I hate when he gulps.
