“C’mon. Remember? Youknowme in a way the others don’t,” she said in a sultry tone.

Wit stonewalled. He was still and silent as he continued to stare at her.

“Wit. We slept together,” she finally said, saying what she had been alluding to.

“Right.” His tone was low, monotone, and full of menace. “When we were drunk.”

She let out a flirtatious chuckle. “So you do remember.”

Wit walked her backward quickly as he grabbed her other arm and pinned her against the wall.

“See? That’s where you blew your cover –– twice. I wanted to be sure, and you walked right into it both times. Where is she?”

“Who?” she stammered, squirming against his grip. “Wit, you’re scaring me.”

“Good.” He began to look around the room in every corner, high and low, in a paranoid fashion. “Can she hear me? You wired? Or is the place bugged?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Her brow furrowed, and her eyes filled with fear.

“That’s who got out of the car after us earlier.” He tossed his head back and began to laugh. “The other car door I heard. I should have known.”

“Wit, I don’t know who you’re…”

“Stop fucking around. I saw movement in the shadows along the tree line a few minutes ago. Saw it earlier too.” He leaned in close, his body hard against hers. “Is it time to switch back, darlin’? You two taking turns? Once upon a time, I could be into that, but not now. Not with her.”

“Turns with who, Wit?” Panic filled her words. “You’re not making any sense. I-I don’t know what you mean or who.”

Wit raised his voice. “Your twin sister,Ashlyn. Where’s Ayelish?”

Cold hard metalmet the back of Wit’s head. He stiffened at the familiar feeling of a gun, one quick squeeze away from ending him.

“Let her go.”

Wit smiled at the familiar voice. “There you are, darlin’.”

“For the last time, I’m not yourdarlin’. For the last time, let her go.”

Ashlyn grew cocky with a smarmy grin and easily pulled from Wit’s grip, rubbing her wrists as she did.

Wit slowly turned around, and Ayelish lowered her gun before holstering it in her rear waistband.

“Now that’s where you’re wrong, love of my life. You are my lady. Or will be. You’re going to haul me down the aisle and make an O’Reilly out of me yet.”

“Again, not going to happen.” Ayelish turned abruptly and walked to the window where she peered out. “And that’s not how that works. You don’t take my name; I take your name.”

“So wearegettin’ hitched,” Wit proclaimed. “Hot damn! I knew this day would come.”

Ayelish buried her face in her hands. “NO. No, we aren’t getting married, Wit. Why do I always fall into your little traps?”

Ashlyn laughed at the banter between her sister and Wit. “So, sis… you slept with him?”

“Jesus.” Ayelish rolled her eyes hard. “Not now, Ash. We’ve got to move.”

Wit’s ear-to-ear grin sank to a look of concern. He was suddenly on high alert at the mention of leaving. “What’s goin’ on, Aye?”

He moved in front of her at the window and looked out, tucking her behind him in a protective manner. Her hand affectionately rested on his side.
