“I don’t know how I got so lucky, but I’ll never take it for granted. Won’t take you for granted. You are…everything to me.”

“You are to me too,” she whispered, dragging his hand to the edge of her waistband. “This isn’t how I planned it or where I thought we’d be right now, but…”

His brow arched, and the corner of his mouth quirked as he pulled at the button of her jeans and slowly dragged the zipper down.

“You mean you didn’t see us getting’ hitched, havin’ babies, all right in the middle of some whacked-out conspiracy murder charge with mercenaries huntin’ us? You’re losing your touch, O’Reilly,” he teased, dipping his hand under the thin lace veil between her center and his touch.

“Definitely didn’t see the mercenary thing coming.” She chuckled, then gasped at a single stroke. She whispered, “But it’s here, and we’ll fight… together. We have a lot more to fight for now, Wit. And for the record, I’m not on board with naming more than one baby Wit. That’s just…”

“A little too country cousin like?”

“Sure.” Laughter escaped her, and the tears went away. “Whatever that means. Also, for the record… I love you so much it hurts.”

“I know that pain, and it’s beautiful… like you.” He leaned in to kiss her and tugged at her clothes, pushing them down so he could have access to her.

A cool draft danced across her sensitive skin, followed by his heated breath as she became fully bare to him. He felt her tense, insecurity most likely, at the intimacy of being so exposed and outside, no less. His hands drifted back up her thighs, slowly, touching every part of her. He gripped her ass and pulled her center to his mouth, lashing at her most sensitive spot with his tongue. Her sounds of pleasure became his motivation.

The grip she had on his hair tightened. The more she tugged, the more excited he became. Her legs fell wider, allowing him to take more –– daring him to.

Wit paused. “You sure we should be doin’ this? I don’t want to hurt the baby. They can’t see… you know… anything I’m doin’ in there?”

“No. The baby has no idea.” She smirked. “It’s safe. We aren’t hurting the baby at all.”

“How can you be so sure?” he asked with hesitation.

“I looked it up. We’re good.”

“Thank heavens because not touching you would be the death of me.”

He hooked her leg over his shoulder as a primal wave took over. A loud moan mixed with the faint night sounds as Ayelish tilted her hips up, begging for more. She rocked against him, greedy for the ending he was teasing. Her hands drifted under his arms, and she pulled him up. She was nearly undone but wanted more than his mouth on her like she greedily wanted to feel him inside her. The message was clear, and he was happy to fulfill her request, moving up her body, tasting her along the way.

As he took one swollen peak into his mouth, he plunged inside her. Rocking and moving perfectly in sync, they took each other to the edge and rolled in the ecstasy they were swimming in, over and over again. Late into the night, Wit held her in his arms as they lay, staring at the sky, wishing on the stars after they’d shared their love with one another, time and time again.

“Angel?” he asked.

“Yeah?”

“You think I put another one in there just now?”

Ayelish erupted with laughter.

“We’re gonna be parents, baby,” he whispered in her ear before kissing her temple. “This is the best day of my whole life.”

Wit stirredawake to sunlight trickling through the gauze curtains and birds chirping outside. It made him smile. Despite the heavy weight of a nationwide manhunt and unearned murder charges looming over him, the day was good. He was good. Happy. For the first time since he could remember, Wit felt fulfilled and loved in a way he’d never experienced before.

He was going to be a dad. There was no greater gift, as far as he was concerned, than a child that was a piece of him and a piece of the love of his life. It was perfection in the making, and he couldn’t believe this was his life. The conspiracy building against him seemed insignificant at that moment because aside from that, all was right in his world and nothing could get in the way.

His hand grazed the cool sheets beside him, and he realized Ayelish wasn’t beside him. At some point during the night, they’d moved their intimate evening inside, where they continued to show each other how much they loved one another in every space of the house –– ending in the bedroom.

Wearing an ear-to-ear grin as memories of the night before danced through his head like a highlight reel, Wit sat up to find he wasn’t alone. Grin to grimace, he quickly piled the blankets from the bed around him to cover himself. Sitting in the corner seating at the foot of the bed were Killion and Cane. Glaring.

“Wh-What the hell y’all doin’ in here?” Wit stammered, noting their icy stares.

“You on vacation or something?” Cane asked.

“H-How’d you get in here?” Wit questioned while avoiding eye contact.
