Killion leaned forward and rested his elbows on his knees, narrowing his stare. “My house.”

“This?” Wit’s eyes shot wide open. “This here’s your house?”

“Yes.” Killion’s tone was one of menace and disdain.

“I… had no idea.” Wit looked beyond the men to the door in hopes someone would come in and rescue him from the uncomfortable encounter he woke up to.

Killion’s teeth gritted tightly. “Clearly.”

“You sleeping with our sister?” Cane deadpanned.

“In my house?” Killion went on.

Cane leaned forward, matching his brother. “In his bed?”

“This.” Wit looked down at the bed in disbelief. “This… is your bed?”

“One of them,” Killion answered.

“One… of… them,” Wit stuttered to himself. “I, uh…”

“Did you?” Cane roared. “Answer the question.”

“What did she say?” Wit asked. “Aye… what did she say?”

Killion shrugged. “What do you think she said?”

It was like a battle of wills at this point, neither wanting to give in to the other.

“I have no idea, but I don’t like this game,” Wit admitted.

“You have something to hide, Cowboy?” Cane continued.

Wit sat taller, finding his confidence as he realized the two brothers had nothing on him. He smiled. “Not if she doesn’t.”

“Why are you making this about her?” Killion asked.

“Because you did.” Wit snorted and lay on the twang. “And you’re the smart one? Shoot.”

“Is this a game to you, Wit?” Cane chided.

“No. I already told y’all I don’t like this game, so you’re the only two playin’ it.” Wit laced his fingers behind his head and leaned against the upholstered headboard as he crossed his ankles, careful to keep the rest of him covered. “Frankly, I’m still stuck on this place bein’ yours, Killion.”

“Because it has a pool?” Killion asked, relaxing in his chair.

“No. Because it’s a damn mansion, man.” Wit chuckled. “What’s a pool have to do with it?”

“I don’t like to swim.” Killion shrugged as if it were common knowledge.

Wit’s brow furrowed in confusion. “You can’t swim? Big guy like you?”

“I’m an excellent swimmer.” Killion rolled his eyes at the perceived insult. “I just don’t like to. It’s…wet.”

“Right.” Wit chuckled. “Wet. Water typically is… wet.”

“This place is an investment. Received it as payment for a job I did a few years ago. Tripled in value since.”

Wit nodded. “Sounds like a good deal.”
