“It was,” Killion agreed. “Why are you changing the subject?”

“I didn’t.” Wit shrugged. “You did.”

“You going to answer the question.” Cane interrupted.

“Ya know… I’m sorta uncomfortable having this conversation, given I ain’t wearin’ anything under these here blankets. And for the record, I always sleep in the nude.”

“He’s telling the truth,” Cane said. “Had to share a room once on a job. Very awkward.”

“I can imagine,” Killion added.

“Who wants to wear sweaty slept-in clothes? Did y’all a favor. I’m a hot sleeper.” Wit shrugged. “Why are y’all here again?”

“We’re here to take you in,” Cane answered with a smirk.

“Whoa. Whoa. First, I didn’t do it. Thought we’d all established that,” Wit defended. “Second, you two are the last two I’d expect to cash in on that bounty. Never took ya for a couple of greedy sons of bitches.”

“Take you in to Watermark, dumbass,” Cane fired back. “We know you didn’t do it. And we’re not greedy but keep this shit up and we’ll collect that reward.”

Killion’s tone dropped to menacing, surprising both Cane and Wit. “Sleep with our sister and count on it.”

“Oh good.” Wit rolled his eyes. “So can I have a minute to get dressed?”

Together, Cane and Killion stood and said in unison, “Yes.”

“Like now would be good.” Wit went on when they didn’t leave. “Door’s behind ya.”

“We aren’t done talking about this,” Cane threatened.

“Didn’t think we were…” Wit said. “And I ask that you take your punches one at a time so it’s a fair fight and stay away from the face. No sense ruinin’ pure art out of broody big brother haste.”

Cane and Killion looked at one another briefly, then turned their backs to Wit, offering privacy when he began to pull on his clothes without warning.

“How’d you know we were here, anyway?” Wit asked.

“Literally said, it’s my house.” Without turning around, Killion began to point around the room where security cameras were now evident.

“Shit. Cameras.” Wit let out a deep sigh. “So this was just a trick question. You’re settin’ me up with all these damn questions you already know the answers to.”

The brothers chuckled.

“Finish getting dressed,” Cane said. “We’ll be in the kitchen with the others.”

“Others?” Wit paused. “What others? I’m done with the important stuff, by the way. Put little Wit away.”

Killion turned to give Wit a disgusted look. “Little Wit? Rip and Coy are helping Aye in the kitchen with breakfast.”

“Why the extra people?” Wit asked as he dug around the bedding looking for a rogue sock.

“You feeling guilty about something?” Cane questioned.

“No. Should I?” Wit pointed at the cameras. “You know something? Anything?”

“No, but if there’s something you want to tell us…”

“Not particularly.” Wit smiled and held up his found sock.

“Okay,” Killion said.
