Tired?

Happy about some things, but sad about bigger ones?

Violet had met me with the keys, at the house I was staying at, and growled at me when I admitted my plan to sleep on the floor. Two mated men were dragging a spare mattress in twenty minutes later, and then an old dresser after that.

That was the extent of my furniture, but I was immensely grateful for it. And Morgan had spent a few hours helping me clean the place up the day before, so it didn’t stink as badly anymore.

That was good.

All of it was good.

It just felt empty.

“Mate problems?” Ethan drawled.

“Among others.” I tucked a few strands of hair behind my ear.

“You hungry?” he asked me.

I sighed.

He held his wrist out toward me in response.

I didn’t take it immediately.

Morgan hated Ethan, because Axel hated Ethan. But I’d heard both sides of the story, and honestly, I thought they were both wrong in many ways.

Ethan had kissed me, once. When he had admitted to me how difficult it was watching everyone pair up while he was always alone. I had offered, and he had accepted. It wasn’t a sexual thing, and we both knew we weren’t interested in each other. But he’d been so sad, and I’d wanted to experience one last kiss before I died.

So… I didn’t regret it.

And honestly, I counted Ethan as a friend. Nowhere near the same kind of friend Morgan was, but still. A friend.

“I might gag,” I admitted to him.

He chuckled. “Wouldn’t be the first time someone gagged at the sight of me.”

I snorted, but still didn’t take his arm.

“We could go on a quest this weekend,” I told him. “Dungeons and Dragons style. Take my car to the college town nearby, and patrol the streets and restaurants until we find you a woman.”

He was silent for a long moment.

So I was too.

Finally, he agreed. “Separate hotel rooms?”

“Can’t afford it. I’ll be sleeping in the car.”

He chuckled. “From famous ballerina to car-sleeping.”

“I was neither famous, nor a ballerina.” I paused. “At least not completely. I did some ballet.”

“Ballerina, then.” He stretched his arm closer. “Just drink.”

I reluctantly accepted his arm, and forced my fangs to descend.

When I bit into him, I nearlydidgag.
