Morgan and Axel were silent during the short drive. Ethan had taken my car, and was following us to the townhouse. He’d have to book it out of there before Kai smelled him on me, but he didn’t seem worried about it.

“You should wait at home,” Morgan told Axel, as he parked in front of Kai’s place.

“Not a chance.”

My door was ripped open before I even had the chance to unbuckle. I almost crashed, but a pair of thick, strong arms caught me easily. The smell on them made me moan—and my stomach finally finished churning.

Just in time for me to vomit all over Kai.

When my vision cleared a little, I saw blood.

Everywhere.

Covering him, and me.

“Shit,” Morgan swore.

“Need any help?” Ethan called out from the driveway beside us.

“If he gets out of that car, he’s dead,” Kai said through a clenched jaw, as he hauled me up against his chest like we weren’t both all bloody.

“I’ve got it,” Morgan agreed, rushing toward my car.

“Don’t,” I told him, teeth chattering.

His fingers dug into my thighs, but he said nothing in response.

Axel followed us to the door, and received a savage snarl when he stepped over the threshold.

“Don’t,” I hissed again at the man holding me.

His grip tightened further. “The scent of another male is on your skin, Spitfire. In your blood. If they push me, I will lose control of my wolf.”

“I want them here,” I argued, trying to pull away from him. Out of his arms.

He just yanked me closer. “You didn’t answer me when I texted you. You have to answer me.”

An angry huff escaped me. “What was I supposed to say? My fated mate just rejected me. Even if I hated you, in what world would I be doing fine?”

“That isnotwhat I did.” His footsteps were heavy and furious against the stairs as he carried me up to the bathroom.

“Of course it is. The only thing that would change if you did officially is that I might be able to drink other people’s blood again,” I shot back. “And your damn wolf would be trying to kill you.”

The man went still, one foot inside the bathroom and one out.

And then his eyes turned red.

“I have not rejected you, female.”

I was talking to Kai’s wolf. Not the man himself.

My nausea and dizziness had me feeling bitter, spewing shit I wouldn’t have said otherwise. “Your human was only interested in having sex with me. When he’d gotten it out of his system, he was done. He had no interest in even attempting anything else. So maybe you didn’t reject me, but he did. And rejecting someone nicely isn’t much less painful than just rejecting them.”

Kai’s wolf roared through the man.

Then his eyes went normal again, and Kai shuddered hard.

“I have to feed her and clean her up, bastard,” man-Kai snarled aloud.
