I knew he wasn’t speaking to me.

He hauled me into the bathroom, ripping my clothes off and roaring at Axel when he came near the door. Morgan appeared in the doorway, and snarled back at him when he tried to make her leave.

“Just wait downstairs?” I asked Morgan, seeing the man struggling to retain control. “I won’t leave until you spill all my secrets.”

She nodded, shooting me a look that let me know she’d kill him and bury the body with me if I needed her to.

The bathroom door closed, but the man didn’t relax as he dragged me into the shower.

Cold water washed over me, and I shuddered hard. It warmed rapidly, and Kai dragged my face to his throat.

“Bite me.”

I hissed at him, and didn’t bite him.

His hands were rough on my skin, but he finally set me down on my feet. His palms cradled my face as he said through gritted teeth, “I didn’t realize I was rejecting you, Spitfire. I didn’t fucking realize. We’ll talk—we’ll figure something out. But I need you to drink my blood, so I can think again.”

The words were raw and honest.

Too raw and honest for me to argue with.

So when he dragged me back into his arms, I didn’t argue.

I drank.

For once, it didn’t turn me on. I think I was too tired, and too emotional.

I drank his blood until my nausea faded. The man was trembling—his hands scrubbing my skin as I fed on him, cleaning the blood off of both of us.

When I pulled away, he growled at me to take more. To drink more.

I refused, though, shaking my head.

He dragged my forehead to his, the hot water still beating down on us. Our bare bodies were pressed against each other, and I hated how perfect it felt.

“Do you know what it did to me, when you didn’t answer me?” he growled. “When I showed up here to make sure you were alright, and found that note, thanks for everything? I had no idea where you were. What had happened to you. If I’d ever see you again.”

“That’s what you wanted,” I said roughly.

He let out a long, harsh breath. “I don’t know what I want, Spitfire. Or what I need. All I know is that I can’t breathe without you anymore. And finding you sick, smelling like Ethan in yourveins—I’m going to kill him.”

“You’re not. I was hungry, and he fed me. We’re just friends.”

“Friends who havekissed.”

“It was a friend kiss.” I closed my eyes. “I don’t want to argue about this right now. I’m exhausted.”

And Morgan was still waiting downstairs, to tell Kai everything I hadn’t told him about the mating process.

Bitch.

I’d done the same thing to her when she was having issues with Axel though, so I deserved it.

And at this point, I didn’t really see any way around it.

Morgan and Axelhad left two clean sets of Kai’s clothes outside the door—pulled out of his truck, apparently. I refused to put on the jeans, but grudgingly pulled the t-shirt and boxers on. I doubted he had ever even worn the boxers, knowing what I did about his typical lack of underwear.
