Our fingers brushed as I took it, and I shivered at the electricity.

“Why does that happen?” I asked the basilisk.

“Why doeswhathappen?” His gaze was on his own fruit, as he snapped a piece of the shell off and used it to begin eating.

The way he was pointedly looking away from me made me suspicious.

“The electricity, every time we touch.”

“Ah.” He continued eating.

I waited.

And waited.

“Fill your stomach so we can begin moving again,” he said, a few minutes later.

“I’m not hungry anymore.” I set the fruit on the ground.

I was being dramatic… but also, I reallywasn’thungry anymore.

Did my lack of hunger have something to do with the electricity?

I should’ve been a lot hungrier while we were traveling than I had been, which was kind of suspicious.

“Sunny…” he watched me carefully as I stood up. I think he realized that I was about to walk away from his ass, because he admitted, “Try not to panic, but I believe the shocks are because of the mate bond.”

I frowned.

I hadn’t felt that with Teris, but… Teris had barely touched me. And only when he had to.

When I tried to remember if North or January had said anything about being shocked, nothing came to mind.

So there was no way to prove him right or wrong.

“Why didn’t you just say that?” I sat back down. “And why did you think I would panic?”

He studied me for a moment before admitting, “You made the decision to kiss me very suddenly. I didn’t double-check to make certain you were sure you wanted to go through with it. So I thought perhaps you might regret breaking your bond with Teris.”

Oh.

“I make almost all of my decisions suddenly. It sometimes leads to regret, but I’ve accepted it.” I grabbed my fruit, and scooped a thick chunk of it into my shell bit. “I don’t regret kissing you, though.”

I might have imagined it, but I thought his shoulders relaxed a little.

“The shocks between us are supposed to calm both fae involved. The magic of the bond refreshes us, sustaining our bodies without food or water.”

Huh.

So thatdidexplain why I wasn’t really hungry anymore.

“That’s pretty cool,” I admitted, finally taking a bite of the fruit.

Damn, it was delicious.

He made a noise of agreement, and I studied him before speaking my thoughts. “North kissed Clevv. Did you hear about that?”

His face darkened. “The male who assumed a woman belonged to him to the extent that he justified hurting another? Everyone heard about that.”
