“Well, I don’t trustyou.” I glanced at Dots, and she dipped her head just the tiniest bit.

Remmo noticed the movement, and lunged.

Dots was too fast—she grabbed me and took to the sky.

And the one thing Remmo couldn’t do, was fly.

Dots must’ve been practicingwith her wings, because she was a hell of a lot faster than I remembered. And with our tiny head-start, we reached the Stronghold just in time for me to yell to the female fae mingling outside that we needed protection—

And just in time for them to form a female wall, dividing us from the man calling my name from the trees.

Eight

Dots wasright about things having settled down—and about the influx of women.

The female fae and new humans down in the living area were downright friendly. Some of them even smiled. It was bizarre, but in a pleasant way.

When we asked if they had clean clothes and an empty room we could borrow for a bit, they were more than happy to lead us up the stairs and get us settled in the exact same room we had once shared with Mare. The crack in the wall had been repaired, which made us both grin.

One of the mattresses had also been removed, so now there were just two beds, both of them on frames. They had colorful blankets and comfortable-looking pillows on them.

Someone brought us a few pairs of the female-fae-style clothing, and we both held them up to ourselves, checking each other out with grins.

Their clothes were much fancier—and prettier—than the ones the seelie had given us.

Honestly, I was excited to try them on.

But first, shampoo and conditioner.

“Tell me everything while you shower,” Dots ordered.

I agreed, and we stepped into the bathroom. She sat on the counter while I scrubbed myself down in the shower, letting the conditioner sit in my hair while I talked, and talked, and talked. Dots asked questions, and I answered all of them.

Even the ones I didn’t want to answer.

By the time I finished talking, she was being way too quiet.

“What are you thinking?” I asked her, shutting off the water and reaching for the robe I’d noticed hanging nearby before I got in.

She hesitated.

“Girl, I am so done doing yoga with you if you don’t tell me right now,” I grumbled.

She sighed. “Have you asked him if he’s your mate?”

I blinked. “What?”

“It’s just that the electricity was the first thing January noticed between her and Lian. She was talking to the new human ladies a few days ago, and she said there was electricity when they touched. And when he introduced himself to her, he gave her his whole name. That sounds kind of like what happened with you and Remmo.”

I blinked at her again.

And again.

And finally said, “We had already bonded ourselves to each other, though. We never touched before that. And Mare loved the way Ervo smelled, too, and they weren’t fated. I didn’t directly ask Remmo if he thought we were fated mates, but he didn’t act like we were fated. And he had plenty of opportunities to tell me, if he thought we were.”

“Well then why was he following you in the first place?”

I blinked again. “Stop giving me hard questions, Dots.”
