“No.” My answer was truthful. “I’ve done enough thinking and running in the last week for at least a year. If you let go of me, I’m just going to follow you to your den, so we can talk. Even if it leads to arguing.”

His lips curved upward slightly. “Something tells me you plan on yelling at me.”

I flashed him a grin. “It’s a possibility. If you can’t take it, walk away now.”

He chuckled. “That’s not going to happen.” His lips brushed my forehead, like he couldn’t resist, and then he released me. “You need a shower. You smell like the female fae.”

I made a face at him. “Shut up and show me the way to your den.”

He laughed. “Alright. Pay close attention, because I plan on having you back there frequently. And adding a kitchen.”

“Stop stressing about the kitchen thing,” I told him, as he shifted forms. My hand stroked his scales lightly, and he wrapped around me when I shifted too. Our bodies warmed each other as they tangled, and if I was in my human form, my face would’ve warmed.

I didn’t know how the conversation was going to go… but honestly, I was kind of looking forward to it.

Finally, I would have answers.

Eleven

It tookabout an hour to reach his den, but that felt like a reasonable amount of time—and a good, solid distance from everyone else—to me.

If we decided to be more than friends, after all, I was going to want privacy.

Allll the privacy.

And allll the sex.

Though, I needed to not think about that until we had some more conversations about important shit.

Mainly the mate stuff. Because I’d been remembering every time I asked him a question that gave him the perfect opportunity to tell me what we were to each other, and he didn’t take me up on any of them.

I didn’t know we had reached the den until he slid through an extremely-well-disguised hole in a tree the size of a grocery store, and his gigantic body disappeared.

I peered into the hole, blinking down into the wide, hollowed-out tree.

There were a series of thick branches jutting out on the inside, positioned strategically so a basilisk could use them to work their way down to solid land.

Remmo was already at the bottom when I slipped inside and started making my way to the ground, but he waited patiently for me. The bastard always wanted to see me trying new shit and learning things. I supposed that was probably a good quality for him to have, even if it made things difficult for me sometimes.

He had a large shelled fruit open and waiting in his hands when I landed on my feet.

“I’m really not that hungry,” I told him as I shifted and looked around.

The space was wide, but not too wide that it wasn’t cozy anymore. There was plenty of space for a huge mattress, a fridge, and what looked like a large, weird couch. A small shelf of books was beside the couch. A bathroom doorway was off to my left side, and everything was spaced out so much that the place felt huge.

“Just eat, please?”

As much as I wanted to say yes and make him happy, I knew there were things to discuss first.

It was time for me to start asking the shitty questions and making him uncomfortable, because he had been keeping too much from me.

I put a hand on my hip. “Whydo you want me to eat?”

He grimaced.

“No, we’re not doing any of that shit.” I poked his face. “This expression tells me that you don’t want to answer me. If you want me here, eating your food, giving you a chance to explain why you were hidingso many thingsfrom me for so long, you give me the whole entire truth. Without a damn grimace. One lie, one half-answer, and I’m out. Completely.”

He nodded slowly. “Alright.” When he gestured toward a piece of furniture that sort of resembled a couch, I walked over there and sat down. As soon as I was sitting, he set half of the shelled fruit on my lap, and handed me a piece of the shell to use as a spoon. “Keep this over those damn underwear or I’m not going to be able to think straight. And eat it, if you want me talking.”
