“I don’t resent him—I want to remove his head from his body. There is a large difference.”

I snorted, pulling my hands away from his chest and leaning back. My knees nearly touched his bare abdomen, and the way our eyes was almost level was kind of overwhelming for me.

“I’ll think about it,” I agreed. “If we do become mates, the physical stuff could only be about getting off, though. You can’t talk about loving me while you’re inside me—that will mess with my head.”

“I understand.” His voice was a little gravelly when he said that, and I ignored the resulting warmth in my lower belly. “Now, I need you to eat.” He placed the fruit back on my lap, and I grimaced.

“Seriously, I’m not hungry.

His words mimicked mine. “Seriously, I need to see you fill your stomach.” The backs of his knuckles brushed my cheek, and he rose to his feet.

My eyes landed on his erection, straining against his pants. And then followed his ass as he strode over to the bookshelf.

“What are you doing?” I asked.

“I’ve kept journals for as long as I’ve been alive. I need to go over my notes about the klynnas. We tested their speed, strength, and agility. The others won’t have things down as accurately as I do.”

“You have centuries worth of journals right there?” My eyebrows lifted into my forehead.

He chuckled. “No. Most of them are in my main den, but it takes much longer to get there.”

“Did you hide it in a glowing cave?”

“Not quite.” He flashed me a smirk as he grabbed a stack of journals near the bottom of the shelf. “I don’tthinkthe notes are here, but if I’m lucky, they will be.”

“What was that face for?” I gestured to his face with the pointy end of my shell-spoon.

“I think you’ll like my den when you see it, that’s all.” He opened the first notebook.

“WhenI see it?”

“Yes. You are my female; my home is as much yours as it is mine, now.” He flipped through the pages of the book, and I watched quietly.

“How dangerous are they? The klynnas?”

“Dangerous enough that I still have nightmares about the brothers I lost to them centuries ago,” he admitted.

Shit.

I tensed, considering asking him to try teaching me how to fight, so I could protect myself. He’d been a really damn good teacher, when it came to everything else.

But I still shut down when I saw violence. I still went numb.

It wasn’t healthy.

But if he saw the way I reacted, how wouldhereact?

“That sexy little brain of yours is spinning, Iloli. Just speak your thoughts to me; you know I will listen.”

Damn him for being right.

And damn me for trusting him to listen.

I opened my mouth to lie, but the truth came pouring out.

“I want to learn how to fight. I don’t want to be helpless anymore. But when I see violence, my brain just stops functioning.”

His eyes lifted from his book. “You want me to train you?”
