That was the question of the century. It was a Friday night. Of course she didn’t have anywhere else she needed to be. She was just taken off guard. For once in her life, she had the opportunity to fly by the seat of her pants and throw caution out the window.

Would it be a mistake to accept Adam’s invitation? Maybe. But right now, she didn’t see any reason not to.

She allowed him to guide her to his truck, where he opened the door for her. “I have the perfect place,” he murmured. “Hang tight and I’ll show you where I like to go.”

Faye watched him jog around the front of the truck before he climbed behind the steering wheel. He flashed her a crooked grin and started the engine. Then he reached for her left hand and laced his fingers with hers.

She stared down where they were connected and marveled, not for the first time, at how well their hands fit together. If this was what all her sisters felt with the men in their lives, no wonder why they were pushing her to just jump in with eyes shut tight. This felt amazing. It was like she’d finally found the one thing that had been missing from her life.

It wasn’t her mother’s truck. It wasn’t a job.

It was someone she could belong to.

And his name was Adam.

Adam

Adam couldn’t believe how right Bridget was. How could it have been this simple? He had never shied away from anything in his life until he started viewing Faye in a different way.

He peeked at her out of the corner of his eye and a thrill rocketed through him. He’d been expecting her to tell him off, to never see her again.

Though he didn’t know how that would work, considering the truck still needed quite a bit of work.

All of those thoughts fell by the wayside now that he had her hand in his. He was going to do this right. He’d woo her until she couldn’t stand to be away from him. And the best part was that he already knew her, and she knew him—a relationship he didn’t share with Dahlia.

He squeezed her hand, and she glanced at him. His heart raced as he considered what this could mean for his future. Adam had come back to Copper Creek to help his father out. He’d resigned himself to running the auto shop mostly because he wanted to keep it in the family. The fact that his father hadn’t asked him to come back in so many words was enough proof that he probably didn’t care if the place was run by family.

Bridget could have been just as good of a choice.

But now he felt he had a real reason to seriously put down roots.

What was this feeling?

Euphoria?

They hadn’t even been on an official date, and he couldn’t stop smiling. All the stress from the past week washed away.

Yes, it was that easy.

Adam pulled into the parking lot for the shop and Faye shifted in her seat. She bent forward and peered out the front window. “Did you forget something at work?”

He shook his head. “Nope.” The confusion that filtered across her face only added to his excitement. “I can honestly say I have never brought anyone here before. It’s kind of like that place you took me to when we went riding.”

She turned toward him and he could read the understanding in her expression. He hoped his statement hit home for her.

“I know it’s weird, but you have to see it to know what I’m talking about.”

Her mouth twitched. “I’m sorry, Adam, I fail to see how an auto body shop can be romantic.” Faye snapped her mouth shut and her eyes widened but only for a moment. “Unless it’s not supposed to be romantic. I don’t want to assume—”

“Just come inside with me.” Adam kissed her hand once more before relinquishing it and stepping from the truck. First, he opened the back door and reached for the handles of the large wicker picnic basket. Then he hurried around to get Faye’s door for her, only to find she’d opened the door on her own.

He frowned but didn’t point out that he wanted her to be treated like a princess tonight and part of that was him doing stuff like this for her. Adam shut the door before holding out his hand. This time she accepted his offering without a second thought. The action had become second nature to both of them, and he couldn’t deny how much that fact thrilled him.

Adam leaned closer to her as they wandered toward the front door. “So we’re going to have to be here for a few hours before it’s really gonna get good, but that will give us enough time to eat.”

Faye let out a laugh. “You realize you sound ridiculous, right? This place is covered in grease and dirt. I bet it smells like rubber and oil. If you can convince me that this place holds even a degree of romance, I’ll kiss you on the spot.”
