“Good for you,” I reply absently, scanning the bar again. They giggle, turning back to their shots. Palmer and Merch are standing at a bar table, drinking whiskies. I wave off Trent’s offer for a glass of my own, crossing to them.

“Heard you caved.” I clap my hand on Palmer’s shoulder. He shrugs as pleasure flickers across his face, and Merch snorts with laughter.

“I had my reasons.”

Merch almost chokes on his whiskey. “She brought her A-game to the negotiating table.”

My eyebrows shoot up. “You let a woman out-talk you?”

Merch snorts again. “Nah, she offered him her ass. Raw.”

Ah. Suddenly the caving and the look of pleasure make sense. “Good for you, man. You guys seen Naomi?”

They both turn to look at me, eyebrows raising. “No. The girls couldn’t get a hold of her either.”

Nodding to them, I pull out my phone again. No reply to my message. I hit her number again, lifting the phone to my ear.

“Hey, this is Naomi. Leave a message, and I’ll call you back as soon as I can.”

Fuck. “Where are you, Peaches? Call me. Now.”

Shoving my phone back into my pocket, my eyes land on Joey. Fucking hell. I don’t want to do this, but it’s not like Naomi to be out of contact. And she’s never burned dinner before.

Swallowing my pride, I cross the bar, stopping in front of the three of them, nodding to Fangs.

“Joey.”

She looks over in surprise, something flashing in her eyes before she squares her shoulder, shoving her tits out at me.

“Well, well, well. I always knew you’d come to taste the better sister.”

Fangs whistles, and Nance giggles, but I ignore them, crossing my arms over my chest. I want to tell her to fuck off, but she might not help me find my woman.

“Have you heard from your sister?”

Something flickers in her eyes again, but she sets her hands on her hips, jutting one out and scoffing.

“Uh, no.”

I grit my teeth, swallowing a snarky remark. “Do you know where she might go if she was upset or something?”

Joey smirks. “Trouble in paradise?”

“No. Are you going to help, or are you going to mouth off to an officer?”

Fangs’ eyebrows shoot up, but this is starting to get serious. I need to know my woman is safe. Joey sighs, crossing her arms over her chest and shrugging.

“Look. Naomi has only ever stuck around until she got bored.” Pity settles on her face. “I guess she got bored. Sorry.”

Fangs clears his throat, dropping an arm around Nance’s shoulder and steering her away.

“This doesn’t concern us.”

Chewing my tongue, I stare Joey down. Right. Naomi bails when she’s bored. That’s why she was an unpaid carer for her mother for years. That’s why she looks after rugrats and changes diapers day in, day out. Joey doesn’t know fuck all about her sister, and it shows.

“Thanks for being less than no help. I’ll remember this,” I mutter, turning away from Joey, pausing as her hand lands on my chest.

Finally. Maybe she’s finished her attention-seeking tantrum and is going to help me. Maybe there’s a human being under all that makeup, after all.
