“Hello, this is McDonald’s,” the cheery voice answers.

“I’m looking for a woman, Naomi White. She was told to go to a McDonald’s in case of a phone call.”

“Uh, hang on.Naomi White?” The last two words are shrieked away from the handset. “Hang on. She’s coming now.”

Relief surges through me, my shoulders sagging. Out of the corner of my eye, Shelley and Lisa are crying, hugging each other as I nod to them. I press the phone closer to my ear, determined to hear her. There is fumbling as the phone at the other end is passed around, and then the sweetest sound in the entire world.

“Viper?” Naomi’s voice is small, almost a squeak.

“Peaches? What the fuck is going on.”

There is a sniff, a small sob, and then full-blown howling tears. It’s hard to understand what she’s saying. Shit. If I can’t understand her, I can’t fucking go and get her.

“Peaches. I need you to calm down and speak to me.”

She sucks in a deep, shuddering breath. “I m-met Joey at the r-reservoir.”

Okay. Joey didn’t fucking mention that. My fingers flex on my hand not holding my phone.

“Sh-she hit me with a b-bottle, and I woke up on a bus with twenty dollars and a one-way ticket to Salt Lake City.”

What. The. Fuck? A low growl rumbles out of me. I’m going to fuck her shit up. I don’t care what the Shaws say. This is crossing a fucking line. Joey’s done in this city. Fucking done. Taking a deep breath, I shake my head to clear it. I need to focus. I need to get Naomi back.

“Stay where you are. I’m coming for you, Peaches.”

“Okay. Hurry.”

“I will. I promise.”

Gritting my teeth, I hit to end the call. It feels so wrong to end the damn call. Hitting the directions button, I stare impatiently at the phone until the map route comes up. Ten hours. I can do it in eight, easy.

Pocketing my phone, I nod to Shelley and Lisa as I stride past them back to the chapel. All eyes swivel to me as I walk in.

“Well?” Holton demands, standing and crossing his arms over his chest. “Is she okay?”

“She’s in fucking Utah. Joey knocked her out and put her on a bus with twenty bucks and a one-way ticket to Salt Lake City,” I growl, my eyes burning into Holton’s.

“Fucking hell,” Aric mutters, shaking his head in disbelief.

“Fucking Joey,” Buster counters darkly, sharing a look with Bruiser, who grunts at him.

“I need a car. I need to go get my woman.”

Aric nods, looking over at me. “Take one from the garage. The Chevy.”

Turning abruptly, I leave the room. I’ll have a conversation with the Shaws when I get back about what needs to happen with Joey because something needs to fucking happen.

Stepping into the blistering summer heat, I jump off the small porch, quickly closing the distance between the clubhouse and the auto garage. Heads turn as I step inside, out of the sun, blinking at the change in light.

“I need the Chevy.”

“Here.” Drew grabs a key off the board, throwing it in my direction. I catch it handily, moving to the white Chevy truck he jerks his thumb at.

Sliding in, I start the ignition, roaring out of the compound and turning toward the Mojave highway. The engine rumbles as I press my foot to the floor. I will break every speed limit possible to get my woman back.
